Really?

I've generally found the Right to be more open to discussions, debate, freedom of speech etc.

it is the Left who wants nothing doing except to rid the world of any counter views, opinions and actions. They're the ones who call for angry demonstrations on the streets, burn cars, shops and cause havoc on our streets when things don't go their way. It is the left who want to ram their intolerant and authoritarian views down our throats.

Go down the list of all Twitter hate mobs, people sacked, voices throttled, calls to boycott, divestment and sanction against businesses and countries, visiting music and theatre acts hounded out, conservative speakers de-platformed from university debates...I could go on and on....but you will soon come to conclusion that the Left is now totally out of control.

Emboldened by friendly media like CNN, NYT, BBC etc. and presidents, chancellors and prime ministers like Obama, Merkel, Macron, Blair etc. apparently on their side, these modern-day thought-police have started showing their true colours.

Absolutely true, there is overwhelming evidence this is the case. In the past month alone or so, in amongst other things, we've had the left wing academics get Jordan Peterson fired from lecturing a bit at oxbridge before he'd even done any, and again at oxbridge a researcher who had done research the left didn't like as they didn't like the results, fired as well.

Hanx offering a whole load of info irrelevant to my post that said those types of people think far more the same than people who dislike Farage, or trump for example. It's not like anyone on here as much working knowledge of left politics beyond what they heard from outrage merchants on the internet.

The right seem to be open to freedom of speech until someone says a mean word and then they ge1t just as outraged as SJWs or whatever. Seems to be some imaginary world that you lot are living in when all the authoritarian or authoritarian-lite politicians on social issues are all conservatives. Duterte, Orban, Bolsanaro, Trump etc. Its certainly not the left seething on another thread on here about kids being told that gay people exist.

What's wrong with BDS? it's people exercising their right to say that what Israel is doing is bad. Was it the same when there were boycotts in apartheid-era South Africa and a restriction on freedom of speech? Conservatives decide to shut down this debate by calling all supporters of it anti-semitic, while elsewhere engaging in that elsewhere.

You listed 4 politicians that are centrists at best and no leftists btw.

Unsurprisingly, you and JC buy into the idiotic culture war about campus politics, which noone really cares about but it's good to rile up the old base.

We are all aware of where the idiocy is coming from on this thread.

When 50% of whatever of people are now going to uni, especially the future movers and shakers, it takes a quite incredibly level of idiocy to not see what's wrong with them all being educated by left to very far left people in left wing ideology, and anything that can even be accused of being "right wing" thought being suppressed, no platformed, and banned. But there we are, welcome to the world of the BF left wing troll.

Probably works that way cause the more intelligent you are, the less likely you are to fall for reactionary conservatives. The extent of left wingers I saw and heard from at uni when I was there just over 5 years ago was seeing annoying SWP people selling their stuff outside the union from time to time.

I know you all like to imagine it's this radical hotbed of commies but that really isnt the case. Teachers can't get students to do all their reading, never mind brainwash them into thinking like they do!

What right wing views are often being suppressed btw, are they banning speakers calling for lower taxes or perhaps promoting privatisation of resources. Or maybe, the banning of anyone who believes in free market economics to an extreme extent. Or is it hateful idiots engaging in falsehoods most of the time?

It's good that Kermit cant continue his grift, he already got exposed when he actually debated a proper leftist speaker who turned out to not be like the straw man created or a unprepared student

Anybody who proposes any sort of immigration control is always accused of being a racist

It is like a big wooden club to beat them over with

But if you look in a Dictionary that is NOT the definition.

The definition is hatred towards people of another race because they are of another race.

But most people do not have this hatred, they just do not want them living here

because a) it means we have too many people in the country,

and b) it threatens our traditional British Culture we do not want to lose, and some aspects of their culture

do cause us problems, read this forum everyday lool

If they stay in their own country I have no problem with other races

It's very true. Actually it's not entirely true, they are often called fascists instead.

Glad to see many sensible views. I understand that some people won't like him but to suggest he's racist is desperate.

Look at the cases of Toby Young and Roger Scruton, sacked without compunction from Government Advisory bodies because of their views (and in Scruton's case, wholly misrepresented, self-confessed hatchet job by the 'journalist' in question). Jordan Peterson's no-platforming is also well documented.

Whether you can call any of the above's view's 'right-wing' is a moot point, since a problem arises when the spectrum of left to right is used to scare people with a relativistic notion that they are "extreme", forgetting that the left has pulled the fulcrum of the see-saw way towards itself over the last twenty years - accelerating the process in the last ten.

very true just checkingLaugh
and a Nazi and worse

By doing this they close all sensible discussion on this subject

We need to reject this one word defence …. and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of immigration in a meaningful way
... so people can make a considered opinion

You are correct Hanks, if parties can be labelled extreme, that is another way of defeating them without argument

Farage's triumph, was he was able to keep the UKIP in the mainstream, so the word extreme could never be used
