What sort of mind is a BBC News Editor required to possess these days, in order to make an editorial decision NOT to show a photo of a chimpanzee dressed up like a toff?

Given that the photograph appears to have been taken in the 1940s or 50s, I think it is safe to assume the chimp is dead, the chimp can't sue, or even express any condemnation over Twitter.  The chimp can't even enjoy a gold-plated, taxpayer-funded, legal challenge by employing a Chancer Human Rights Lawyer to protest 'hurt feelings".

Is there ANYONE who can explain WHY the ludicrous decision was taken?

Now he wants to make a full public apology. Perhaps those of you defending his actions should think about that. He is either a liar or cack sucker, good riddance!

and for the record I found the photo more than amusing but he should have known the legitimate offence it would cause to many.

If you think he meant to cause racial offence imo you are a bigger idiot than Danny Baker.
Report Just Checking May 10, 2019 2:03 PM BST
Well that's my thoughts Clydebank. I doubt he meant to be racist as you'd have to be incredibly stupid to do that in 2019, but it's very obvious why it could be interpreted as racist. But his attempts to cover it up by saying he didn't know much about the baby or that it was technically mixed race etc just come across as pathetic and dishonest.

I'm so tired of the permanent state of outrage the media/political bubble is in now in about anything on "social media", the lynch mobs, the lack of forgiveness or to accept there may be a more innocent explanation, the hysterical OTT media and political overreactions, and people getting fired or even arrested for nonsense. It's pathetic. It's hard to conclude society is a better place than it was before it was invented, quite the opposite.

If someone on here posted that image on the "historical photos of interest" thread the betfair forum censors would wave it through without a thought and people would look at that and thinkg "lol that's a bit silly". I did not see what he posted, but from the description and for the BBC not to even show it on tv can only be something incredibly offensive and disrespectful to the Royal couple; a sacking is the very minimum. I think he ought to consider himself fortunate not to be charged with posting an offensive and potentially racist image not acceptable from a BBC personnel whose salary is paid by the tax-payers.

I believe his sacking is wholly justified. I also hope he accepts it, and try not to trivialise it as something unintentional or personal to the Royal couple.

police investigating now.Baker is a clown but its not a criminal matter.

In your mind it is not a criminal matter . Nor in my mind or the minds of any normal , sane , right-minded individuals . Unfortunately legislation has been put in place by people who are not in their right minds , in order to control and eventually curtail , freedom of speech , freedom of expression and ultimately , freedom of thought .
For a real crime to have been committed it requires a victim who , as a direct result of that crime , had suffered either loss , harm or injury . Injury can be either physical or psychological (which by it's very nature is subjective) .
Here we have a perceived crime for which there is no loss no harm and no identifiable injury . Furthermore there is no specific victim .
Clearly no crime has been committed and yet our police are empowered to 'investigate' . Regardless of the increasing volume of crimes that involve genuine loss , harm and injury (including murder at the hands of gun and knife-crazed lunatics still at large , this crime would appear to have taken priority . Even if our police had cleared every outstanding case on their books and were sat on their backsides awaiting the next gang-related stabbing , there would still be no justification whatsoever for them to look into the actions of Mr Baker .
