When will the BBC and the like realise true justice does not take sides and there is no "Victim" until the trial is completed.
Civil liberties charity Big Brother Watch said victims should not have to "choose between their privacy and justice".
Potential Victims do not get to choose how justice is dispensed by society. Justice is a cold emotionless task. It is polices responsability to investigate all potential crime regardlesss of how "Emotional" the victim is about any given request.

I discussed this with my better half and she agreed. They're not 'rape victims', they are 'alleged rape victims'. To call them victims from the off infers the accused is guilty without trial. Also, there have been cases where the woman has indeed made up the allegations. Innocent men have gone to prison until mobile evidence proves the rape was fiction. Prisons aren't nice places for those convicted of sex offences.
Incredible this is being seen as an attack on someones privacy.
The news covered the recent case whereby a man was proved innocent because of content on the 'victims' phone.
The accused has the same rights as anyone.

Ha Ha you think the police gaf about the accused? Their job is to get people convicted. This issue is simply about stopping them from wasting time and money.

Decent people will have no worries over the police accessing phones or computers but I doubt they would except in major crimes.

Since there have been false claims of rape, police need to access all evidence
It may feel uncomfortable to the victim who has been violated...but in this world it is needed

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the new consent forms were not a change in policy but were intended to "achieve consistency nationally".
The forms - which can be used for complainants in any criminal investigations - say victims will be able to explain why they don't want to give police access to their data.
But they are also told if they refuse permission "then it may not be possible for the investigation or prosecution to continue".

I totally agree with this new initiative.
There have far too many reports of men going to prison for years on just the say so of a woman. And as someone earlier pointed out the women are always called 'victims' - not alleged victims which they should be called.
