But that certain someone said to me me this lunchtime over a pint that she likes it so I'm sticking with it for awhile but I don't want a full blown "Brian Blessed" job as I'll have a bit of scrambled egg hidden away no doubt that will escape my attention one morning and that's not something that I'd ever want to happen

Don't forget to have a load of tats done as well.

and buy a convertible.....
By:
No, never will I have any tatts mouse. I'm 52 and I would not have a tattoo if you paid me.
By:
But tattooed beardies are the future of Britain.
By:
No convertible either T.M.! I'm sure I'll get bored with it but it's quite alright not shaving every morning for the time being which is, to me anyway, a right pain.

you'll find yourself in boots eventually buying all the grooming gear, whilst taking a look at every bearded man in the street, comparing your work of art to his, thinking who's is best? next thing you know it's the 2021 and you're flying off to New Zealand to take part in the World Beard and Mustache Championships, wondering, wtf am I doing here

Don't forget to fist-bump your barber after he's pouffed your beard.
By:
tats = tattoos
tatts = between members' and the silver ring also: tatties = eaten with neeps and a couple of fried Mars bars |

52 is beyond midlife imo, more like two-thirds life crisis.
By:
What about your certain someone has she got a Brian Blessed style f@nny? bet she has.

Well thank you for that Richie! and yes you are probably right but the males on my Mum's side live to a ripe old age (90's is more than common)and I definitely take after my Mum's Dad. To be honest with you all, I'm not really happy with my beard, it's growing far too quickly and I'm just not used to it at all. If I leave it another couple of weeks I'll look like Colonel Sanders and I'm not too happy about that thought to say the least

Quite the opposite Make my hay, very trim indeed.
By:
Get yourself a beard trimmer, keeps it under control and also you can have a shorter length beard until you grow to love it.
By:
most men who start to grow beards is usually because they're balding, compensation. Personally I find the bald head/full flufffy grown out beard quite a tragic look.

You must push through the itchy stage. It'll get better. Failing such endurance maintain a healthy stubble.
Shaving daily is a chore best avoided. |
By:
Like I said earlier scandanavin-haven, I'm 52 and it's just an experiment but it's not really going to be for me long term as I'm rapidly going grey and although Mrs. Blue said she likes it I really don't very much. I'll give it another week and then I know I'll get rid of it.
Injera, you are so right. I absolutely hate shaving as I don't need to work wise. |
By:
I last had a proper shave in January 2007. It itches too much when I take it right down; I scratch and make it sore. I trim my stubble a couple of times a week, or more if there's a special reason to do so.
By:
I'm just having a leg-pull slippy, good luck with the beard, it suits some, it doesn't suit others, you'll know when people start to comment on it.
By:
dont forget to remove it once in a while to allow sun to your face.
always messed around with stubble to some degree, but i always felt compelled to shave to meet folk who might not be impressed by the unshaven look. |
By:
Yes of course scandie, I know you are having little banter with me
Thing is though, since I posted this thread I can't help but rub my new found beard!! I'm not liking it to be honest but I promised I'd tough it out for another week. Bloody hell, it's so grey ![]() ![]() |
By:
Donny, I'm going on holiday first week of June for 10 days and it will be gone by then most definitely. I do like being on the beach with a cold beer and the sun in my face.

a bit of grey stubble, on a tanned face may be a new look for you on return.
By:
slippy - I hate shaving and so most of the time I have stubble. However, one time in the summer it was a bit longer than normal and my wife asked if I needed help rubbing in the suncream. I hadn't put any on, she just wasn't used to how gray it was

Hank, nobody can really like shaving mate, it's a pain in the ar@e! By the way to completely change the subject Hank, I hope your little lad is doing OK now mate.
By:
Going into summer you have to consider tan lines. If you've ever taken a sideburn back further than normal in summer you'll see the white patch underneath.
If you grow a proper beard, tan, then shave it, you may have a noticable pale beard pattern left. |
By:
I couldn't give a monkeys about tan lines J.C. I just want a couple of books, a cold beer and a swim in the sea and I'm a happy bunny.
By:
You have more patience than me slippy. I cannot go past the itchy stage and will never have a beard. Not that I really want one anyway. Wet shave once a week for me, and
that is it because shaving is so tedious. |
By:
Cheers slippy - things are pretty stable right now - thanks for asking

Women don't know what we put up with

52..... now that is oooold

By:
10 days growth now, several comments for Women that they like it, been at this stage & longer before but by the 4 week mark all I'm then doing is rubbing & scratching it, the forthcoming warmer weather wont help either.

By:
The itching goes away, i had it all the time when i started but after a few goes it doesnt itch anymore.

I do not like beards at all, but I quite like the 'designer stubble' look. I think you can buy shavers that just keep the stubble in check quite easily so it doesn't morph into a beard.
What I have noticed, to my horror, is how many young men now have beards . In my day, god that sounds old, old, you rarely saw young men with beards and actors and musicians usually didn't have them. |
