Trendy Centrists? - lol

If only it were "trendy" - the truth is we live in a world where shallow soundbites attract the easily fooled and the desperate to the extremities - there is (unfortunately) nothing trendy about being moderate or reasonable. The headlines and the airtime are all dedicated to the far sides. Obviously both far sides need to then claim that the "MSM" is in collusion with the other side.

Alas we will continue (as ever) to veer from the trendy left to the trendy right and then back again, in doing so we will fail to deliver any solutions to the real problems as most problems in need of solving need a long term solution - the straight line is the quickest route on any journey but that's not trendy so we zig-zag and never reach the destination/solution.

To suggest that centrists are trendy implies you have no grasp whatsoever of how election campaigns, manifestos, the media or peoples minds work. The complete opposite is true - Centrists will never be "trendy".

Apart from Tony Blair.

There's a whole new lexicon needed to describe the politically-inclined in our nation nowadays.

Previously easily-understood terms - Fascist, Far-Right, Racist - are now so readily used they have no real currency, not even as insults. I genuinely think that in any kind of political discourse, be it on MSM or social media, protagonists should call each other 'Hitler!' at the outset, then go on to discuss the matter at hand in as civilised way as they can muster.

That's a fair point Hanx - but that just demonstrates my point.

It's quite possible to have a fairly "centrist" view on one issue that will see you being accused of fascism/racism and also to hold a fairly "centrist" view on another unrelated issue that would then see you being accused of being a loony leftie/communist.

These things come and go in cycles but I cannot see centrism being "trendy" again in my lifetime. Centrism is under attack from all sides, nobody wants to hear a common sense middle of the road solution - People are looking for immediate, knee jerk radical solutions to difficult long term problems. Nobody wants to hear that the real solution will need a long term well thought out solution. Things like education, health, care, transport, energy, etc need 30+ year policies, we don't have a political system in place that facilitates finding solutions.

If trendy centrists vote for a parties like Change UK or in America like Joe Biden they are absolutely the type of people who deserve to be criticised

For me, the absolute worst people in politics. Stand for nothing. And when push coned to shove they always side with tories in general elections.  The media is full of them, and so the parliamentary labour party, which is why they despise corbyn.

Regarding this point, 'centrists' criticised lefties who had misgivings about Clinton and Macron and didn't particular want to vote for them. The argument being, these politicians create the climate that allows a Trump or Le Pen to thrive. Macron attacking unions or Clinton basically offering little different on the economic side - why should leftists be enamoured with these types of politicians and fully be on board with them.

Come General Election 2017, the centrists who dislike the Tory Party, May, Cameron or their Brexit stance are stomping their feet refusing to vote for Corbyn. Why should the left feel they have any support ever from types.

You're probably gonna see it again in 2020 if Bernie wins, Trump is the worst and all that but I can't vote for Bernie!!!
