Sad occasion for her family and friends. RIP
Report Baphornet April 24, 2019 4:03 PM BST
why wouldn't the family want a quiet funeral? Who pushed them into this? This was quite close to a state funeral
Report dave1357 April 24, 2019 4:52 PM BST
journalist murdered by terrorists - don't you think that deserves a good turnout?
Report Baphornet April 24, 2019 4:56 PM BST
no, not to this scale. Do you? And if you do, why?

Did any know who she was?

I'd never heard of her until she was plastered all over the BBC

The MSM look after their own.

Headline news now.

Jamal Khashoggi brutally murdered by the Saudis - allegedly. A journo who was the news for a long while across every known news media; i wonder what he'd have thought, & said about the 37 bloodthirsty executions yesterday in Saudi, one of which was a crucifixion? Just to add, one of the victims yesterday was another journo
Report Baphornet April 24, 2019 5:49 PM BST
how many of you knew about the above? Not broadcast very successfully was it
Report sageform April 24, 2019 5:49 PM BST
Apparently she was Sky news young journalist of the year for the whole UK but I had not heard of her either. As for why the big funeral, it was to demonstrate that the IRA are still a big threat.
Report fife April 24, 2019 5:50 PM BST
Is it only journalists you have heard of that should be on mainstream tv if they have the misfortune  to be murdered by terrorists SontaranStratagem.
Report Reynard April 24, 2019 5:51 PM BST
I didn't know about the 37 executions but not surprised bearing in mind that the MSM can't afford to upset the Saudi's Whoops
Report Baphornet April 24, 2019 5:55 PM BST
double standards, Reynard? I read about it on Amnesty International, btw

Not a good situation anyway Bap,Saoradh marching in paramilitary gear in Dublin and Cork,ok Easter but a big step up.

Marie Colvin I think she was American themightymac.
Report Baphornet April 24, 2019 6:07 PM BST
yes pa, i heard about that, down O'Connell street as well?
Report pa lapsy April 24, 2019 6:09 PM BST
Yes,up Barrack st in Cork,i've nothing against marking republicism from times past but a different feel to this.
Report Baphornet April 24, 2019 6:11 PM BST
it could be worse, pa they could have let hate preachers spill bile & filth on British streets for years unabated
Report themightymac April 24, 2019 8:30 PM BST
Thanks Fife.

Saoradh marched in Glasgow today.
Surprised they were allowed given their association with the group that killed the young journalist.
Report Baphornet April 27, 2019 9:33 PM BST
any trouble, Mr Bula?
Report lybertyne April 27, 2019 9:46 PM BST
Can't stand the Irish pronunciation of Lyra.
Report akabula April 27, 2019 9:55 PM BST
I haven't heard of any. Was an old work colleague who told me so not first hand info.
Report Baphornet April 27, 2019 9:59 PM BST
there is definitely something brewing. As we now know the reason for all the dignitary suckholing; expect the unexpected
Report akabula April 27, 2019 10:13 PM BST
I was surprised as well given that it wasn't a targeted killing of a journalist but an indiscriminate shooting that killed a lass who happened to be a journalist.
I think though that something is brewing and the large turnout of dignitaries was a show of strength against a return to all out violence.
Report akabula April 27, 2019 10:18 PM BST
Good on the local residents. Takes courage to do that.

when politicians get together, Mr Bula over something that wouldn't even make headlines normally, you just know their stench has other plans for it's aroma
Report akabula April 27, 2019 10:30 PM BST
Especially with Theresa involved. Discount nothing.

Seen a couple of pics on twitter in respect of the march.
Each featured a banner. One read 'Unfinished Revolution - Unfinished Business' and the other 'We haven't gone away you know'.
Both worrying messages. I doubt though that apart from a few 1diots they'll get much support.
Report Baphornet April 27, 2019 10:49 PM BST
only takes one snowball to start an avalanche, Mr Bula

What do you expect when the utterly inept PM starts meddling , putting  the Good Friday Agreement in jeopardy.
Report akabula April 29, 2019 11:22 PM BST
They've been about longer than that and this mob is hoping May fecks up as it'll mean more possible support from them.
BTW in their constitution they are opposed to the Good Friday Agreement so not quite sure how you got that idea.

Good to see them getting stick from the good people of Dublin who booed them and good also that the committee of the organisation behind the parades distanced themselves from them.
Report Baphornet April 30, 2019 12:14 AM BST
yes there does seem a shift just about everywhere concerning paramilitaries, Mr Bula
Report Baphornet April 30, 2019 12:17 AM BST
and good to see a few more people (better late than never) have now seen the Saudi executions from last week
Report akabula April 30, 2019 12:23 AM BST
Quite barbaric. Torture, beheading or stoning then crucifixion for some.
Not sure what the response should be but I won't hold my breath for anything substantial.

Report Baphornet April 30, 2019 12:33 AM BST
Saudis have a free rein in this country, quite sickening tbh & you have a number of politicians who refuse to st at a table with Trump because he's banged a few hookers & upset the odd liberal fanatic. Quite bizarre; JFK would never get a vote these days
