Two of us got blacked up and put together a couple of boxes to resemble a canoe with some straps over our shoulders, and made some paddles.

Cassette player inside the canoe playing Hawaii Five O theme.

I went as a prostitute once in 2003.  Shiny mini-skirt, crop top, fishnet leggings with a rip.  Badly overdone makeup.  My hairy chest was obviously on display and the disturbing thing is that I could dress like that now, say I'm a woman and I'd be taken seriously.

I still think this is the best fancy dress moment of them all.

Richard Littlejohn writes about them quite regularly,e.g. Batman and Robin seen fighting Oompa Loompas.

LaughLaughLaugh it is, the "190" sign makes it a 10/10

Of course anything involving dark skin.
Instead of vicars and tarts how about muezim and burqa-wearer?
Report mouse muldoon April 24, 2019 3:28 PM BST
Or a suicide vest?

How about dressing as a Hitler like Freddy whatshisname used to. Is it fred? You know, that manic comedian from the 70's.
Report themightymac April 24, 2019 3:49 PM BST
Hitler fancy dress was very popular at Halloween in 70s but I think banned now. Did Prince Harry not get in trouble for dressing up as a Nazi at some party? How times have changed, Edward the abdicator and Mrs Simpson were regular visitors to the Berghof in the 30s and the old Queen Mum, bless her, used to learn the Queen and her sister how to do the Nazi salute properly.

Anybody ever go disguised as a naked man? That would be funny and as a bonus, save on costume hire.
Report Do wah Diddy April 24, 2019 7:47 PM BST
Alun2005 that's a belter the 190 makes it

I do like the Diane Abbott one.  As for "blacking up", well Diane is black so how can one impersonate her if one has white skin?  It's not taking the piss out of her skin colour, it's laughing at her numeracy skills with the 190 sign.

A slight digression...I saw a programme with Rich Hall in America.  There's a bit where he speaks with a native American who bemoans whites having 'dreamcatchers' in their cars and the wearing of head-dresses to fancy dress parties as 'cultural appropriation'.  All the while he's doled up in Western jeans and t-shirt.  'Cultural appropriation' apparently only works in one direction.

Trigger took some beating.
Saw a couple as The Pope and a Nun.
They both had swastika armbands.
Was pre Benny. So not sure why.
Probably frowned on now.
Report lybertyne April 25, 2019 12:27 AM BST
If I were to go now I'd choose something that many would consider distasteful, such as Jimmy Savile.
Report Crisp77 April 25, 2019 7:47 AM BST
I used to go dressed as Michael Barrymore, but of course I had to stop that...I kept on dropping the paddling pool
