Yea right becauase if a tory home secretary was caught drinking on a train when it was banned there would be NO comment. Even the Daily Mail would on their case hard. ...On what planet to these labour apologists live?

Since 1 June, 2008 it has been illegal to drink alcohol on Transport for London's (TfL) network. The alcohol ban was introduced by the then Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, in an attempt to tackle unruly behaviour on the TfL network.

Whilst I'm not the greatest fan of the brainless racist that is The Rt Hon Diane Abbott MP , I see this as the lesser of two evils . Like many Members of Parliament , she could quite easily have hailed a taxi at the public's expense . Instead she chose to travel with the hoi polloi on public transport and maybe felt that a little dutch courage was required for the experience .

I'm with Reynard on this. Takes (a) bottle for an MP to travel on the train. No seriously fair play to her. She gets enough grief but I'm genuinely surprised she would use the tube.

Momentarily funny but column inches? An apology? Another Twatter storm in a teacup outrage? Really?
Several thousand veterans march in Central London yesterday to protest the trials of soldiers accused of murder on Bloody Sunday and there’s not a peep about it.
Every single MSM platform are self-serving bu11sh!tters, wherever you stand on the political spectrum

"she could quite easily have hailed a taxi at the public's expense ." Taxi? Could she not get something cheaper, is there not an internet company that caters for people like her, sure I heard about it. "Blubber" or something?

"Several thousand veterans march in Central London yesterday to protest the trials of soldiers accused of murder on Bloody Sunday and there’s not a peep about it." I certainly never heard about it. Maybe David Attenburgh could talk about it and they could get some indoctrinated schoolchildren to skip school for it?

The reason people find it amusing is that it's the "shadow home secretary", their spokesperson for law and order, brazenly flouting a law that's been in place for 11 years that could result in a fine. It's not like if say Boris or Gove did it, the media would ignore it, and they don't even hold that position. The media and internet would be all over them.
I'm not sure what PoP's game is, I think he laughably believes he's a clever troll, but actually with every post he adds strength to the proposition that left wing people aren't very bright. It's not exactly a winning strategy!

Did she not praise state schools yet sent his son (I think) to a private one? Quite a few Labour MPs did the same - these MPs might hate the system, but the way forward and/or feeding from the public trough would be too tempting or foolish to bypass.

Is anyone criticizing her for drinking on a train. Not many, good!
Criticizing her for all the rest is fair game.
Yes she is an easy target, yes she gets it because she is black but on most occasion's she deserves it.
We deserve better than this Shadow Cabinet switching benches.
I don't think breaking the Political mould is the right answer but in these Euro Elections I hope they do but the two main parties need better people representing them and the current incumbents might be made to fight for their places.

When I look at her all I see is somebody who has got carried away on the support she has from her ethnic communities, and thinks she’s halfway competent as a result, when in the larger scheme of things she’s terrible.
Doesn’t much matter to me which politician it was or for which party they stand for, if they knowingly break the law they come across as elitist, believing the law is for other people.
In her defence, if I were her I’d be rat arsed everyday just to keep going.

I see this has brought the racist card idiots out in force, even though it's absolutely zero to do with race.
In fact, I would go further. I would say you're racist if you don't criticise a person's wrongdoing, simply because of their skin colour, when you otherwise would.

I do not think anyone deserves to be criticised - each to his/her own - unless the person did something contravening the law or their public office. Why did Ms Abbot not be a wee bit more respectful of the law banning alcoholic drinking on London Transport? She's a public figure part of the establishment and privileged responsible for upholding the law.
She can talk-the talk but cannot walk-the-walk! Can anyone really believe but for her origin she'd be on the front bench of a major British Political Party and representing a suburb in Hackney? With respect to Ms Abbot she ought to have known better whilst travelling on public transport.
I think apologising sincerely after the event is self-serving, and financial induced.

Why was drinking alcohol on public transport banned? They had been the causes of minor and serious disturbances/crimes. Anyway, why would one need to drink in public unless in a legally regulated place like an eaterie/restaurant with food and other accompaniments? If I'm not mistaken glass containers eg cups, bottles, etc, have been banned too in sports grounds and some public places, I believe.

oddly enough at durham cricket they give you plastic cups to drink outside but allow you to take glass bottles of wine to drink from your own glasses.

I think the cricket and rugby fans (clienteles) are wholly different to football - they perceived to be more sophisticated and upright (socially). For instance, cases of sexual innuendos were usually football related/specific, if memory serves.

Slurping is acceptable,...if eating noodles in Japanese culture. I believe it shows the noodles are tasty and appreciated.
