I prefer older films , personally . Plenty from the 70's / 80's that I have yet to see .
I watched one last night from 1983 - Corruption (also listed as 'Order Of Death' or 'Copkiller') . 8/10 Happy

I tell you a good recent movie, you might not have seen it, Four Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri - it's better than it sounds, it won an Oscar or two

I went to London last week and wasn't that well so spent the time crawling to cinemas near tube stations.
Everybody Knows is a decent low-key character-driven thriller ( in Spanish )
Us I thought was just a silly over-hyped horror film. I was hoping for something better.
The Highwaymen I saw in the cinema but it's already on Netflix,is an evocative if rather slow period piece.
Ben is Back is well-made and well-acted but felt somewhat inauthentic and contrived.
Under The Silver Lake is weird. Pretentious or over-ambitious to be kind.

Three Billboards -- another vote.
Bohemian Rhapsody -- a great feelgood film.
A Star is Born -- the newer Lady Gaga version.

Report The_KAMIKAZEE_DRINKING_MACHINE March 31, 2019 12:20 PM BST
The best thing about Bohemian Rhapsody is listening to two or three Queen songs. Absolute classics. The worst thing is having to suffer through their endless parade of horribly shyte songs particularly but not exclusively from the 80s that are so insufferable combined with their awful pretentiousness that makes you just want to kill yourself. I give it ONE star.

I watched 'The Highwaymen' on Netflix last night (released 2 days ago) and it wasn't bad to be fair. It's the story of the Texas Rangers who set out to capture/kill Bonnie & Clyde with Costner & Harrelson in the lead roles. I quite enjoyed watching the tale from the other side of the fence.

Tonight I'm going to try out 'Triple Frontier' (also on Netflix), but first the nail-biting Liverpool v Spurs

Not recent, recent, but The Imitation Game is a film that stands many viewings.

Similar to 'A Beautiful Mind' Angoose, both very good watchable movies.

Can also throw Moneyball in to the mix, another film that can be watched many times.

I may well be swimming against the tide here but I've never liked Queen's music, never bought any of their records and it would be my idea of cinematic hell to watch 'Bohemian Rhapsody' but that's just me, each to their own of course.

Aspro thanks for the heads up on The Highwaymen.....Wow what a shocker probably one of the worst Movies I have seen in the last ten years....Shame.great actors but pure garbage I would probably blame the director.

@SlippyBlue -- you do not have to be a fan of Queen to enjoy Bohemian Rhapsody. I've got none of their albums. In fact it might even be better as you can enjoy it as an upbeat, feelgood movie rather than being distracted by minor historical errors.

The Imitation Game is a great film except that the writer has clearly not understood the source material. I can just about accept for dramatic purposes the maths geeks worrying about how the intelligence was used (although in fact they'd not have been involved in translating the messages from German, let alone assessing their military significance) but the bit that drives me spare is Turing's eureka moment at the end when he decides to use the machine to do exactly what he'd designed it to do in the first place.

But aside from that, it is very watchable.

I enjoyed BlacKKKlansman more than Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody (which whilst a feel good film and the re-enactment of Live Aid is good - is actually pretty rotten with a lame script and rotten acting except for Rami Malek, who should have won an oscar for best lookalikey).

A Star Is Born was really very was good. Top acting by both leading actors.

Another film I enjoyed and will get slated for is Walk Like A Panther. Great fun.

I watched 'Nebraska' on Film 4, I'd never even heard of it before but it got a good write up on imdb (they rated it 7.7/10) so I gave it a go and it was very good I thought. A fine performance by Bruce Dern in a very poignant film, (it's in black and white). I gave it 7/10 and would recommend it.

Bad times at the El Royale seemed to slip under the radar for most people last year. Didn't play for very long and the reviews were, for the most part, fairly luke warm. I loved it though, easily my film of last year, a sumptuous piece of neo-noir. Even the trailers are things of beauty...

That's a great tip lux, very unlike me to let a film like that go undetected especially with Jeff Bridges in it, cheers for that heads up.

I have been slowly working my way through these great nominations.

3 Billboards lived up to expectations and I really enjoyed this gripping thriller. The end was rather confusing though. Looked like they were setting it up for a sequel Confused 8/10

Green Book was indeed a very good film. Viggo Mortensen is a fine actor. 8/10

I watched one last night which nobody has mentioned. The Highwaymen starring Kevin Costner. A Netflix production based on the true story about the two famous Texas Rangers who come out of retirement to kill the infamous Bonnie and Clyde. Very good but over 2 hours long. 8/10

Paddington 2 is the greatest family film of all time. Well, it's quite good anyway.

If there is a moral to this thread, it is that the Oscars (and BAFTA) judges aren't complete lemons.
