The creator of Fireman Sam has said he "can't see" how the children's show has a stereotype problem and puts women off joining the service. "It is for children it wasn't meant to be advertised as a recruiting post," he said. Laugh

It comes after senior fire officer Alex Johnson told The Telegraph "most of the job is nothing like it is portrayed" in the show.

It has sparked debate on social media about whether the show is sexist.

Of course women can do the job. It mainly consists of sitting around chatting with the odd bit of slipping down a pole and handling a large hose.

Seem to remember watching an episode where Sam went out on a "shout" and Samantha took the opportunity to practice her pole dancing routine on the station pole.

I remember thinking at the time - this is a very diverse and progressive episode - but in all fairness, thinking about it now it might not have been Fireman Sam. Blush

scandy nails it. Makes a mockery of genuine mysogyny and abuse like FGM...

The fact is fewer women than men want to spend their lives cutting people (sometimes dead) out of cars. Fires are rare. Road accidents less so.

It is a job for men...it always will be...what is wrong with that??????

I am sure women can apply if they want...if they are able to meet the physical reuqirements

Laugh you are probably right Nellie

I preferred society as it was in the past..
We had MEN things......we had WOMEN things
and a DEMARCATION line down the middle..

Still we live in a democracy so I suppose things are the way men and women want them now

I preferred the past, myself

I a terrible MISCOGYNYST I know, so apologies to women posters on here, you seem ok to meHappy

that is very honest nellieHappy

They have an agenda, it is not hard to see what it is, hopefully we will all eventually see this.

Still the world of men and women has never been that easy, there are casulties  on both sides

"Women are just as capable as men at firefighting"
Are they? What about e.g. carrying an unconscious 15 stone man from a burning building, or lifting a beam, or chopping a door down quickly?
