.......This is not what people should expect from a Cameron-Clegg duumvirate. History has a habit of punishing drift. Usually the people, demanding firm leadership, fail to get it and become beguiled by easy options. Edward Grey and Neville Chamberlain may have brought war closer in 1914 in 1939 simply because Germany was utterly unclear about how Britain would jump in the event of a crisis. We are at that stage now. Unless a clear view is pushed that Britain must lead in Europe at the very least to achieve the completion of the single market then the portmanteau for Greek euro exit might be followed by another sad word, Brexit.

Talking of clocks and the EU I see they are talking about letting each country across the EU decide on whether to do daylight savings time or not.
Bit of a recipe for travel chaos surely? Missed flights connections and so on? And the chances of betfair (who always seem to struggle with it) getting the DST right if it's random across Europe after THAT, is about nill!

Report Ibrahima Sonko • March 27, 2019 10:53 PM GMT
tbh, i reckon they are afraid of a 2nd referendum even with the propaganda over the last 3 years.

They are very worried that people can think without a tv.
Report CLYDEBANK29 • March 27, 2019 11:08 PM GMT
I voted remain.  Personally I think it's a no brainer, although I'd appreciate a thorough published independent analysis on the economic pros and cons of immigration, and the effect EU membership has on it, to rubber stamp my view.

The EU led to greater equality and greater wealth, both of which I approve of.  Normally, you have to trade one off against the other.  I couldn't give a flying fook whether the EU or Whithall makes 15-50% of our laws.  So the only issue is how immigration effects us.

During this phase to determine the future UK-EU relationship, the UK will still be obliged to follow EU rules, but it will have no say in the EU's law-making process and no members in the European Parliament or any other EU institutions. Britain will remain in the single market, the customs union and will continue paying into the EU budget. British citizens can continue to move freely, work and study in the EU while EU nationals in the UK have the same rights.

So you've left but haven't? why all the commotion then?
Report Shrewd_dude • February 1, 2020 1:36 AM GMT
We have left because we are now out of the EU. We just have all agreed to have a transition period. Thick as pigshit.
Report SontaranStratagem • February 1, 2020 1:49 AM GMT
But you haven't left

You still have to abide to all the rules until you come to some arrangement

Left in name only at this moment in time, in fact your worse off at this moment in time because there's no say in EU law, they make a new law this country has to abide to it until the transition period is over, and no one knows if that's ever going to happen
Report Shrewd_dude • February 1, 2020 1:58 AM GMT
Two parties agreeing to abide by certain rules for 11 months does not mean they are in a Union. So we have left we just abide by  the agreed rules.

Yes maybe in real terms nothing has changed but to try and suggest we haven't left is nonsense.
Report SontaranStratagem • February 1, 2020 2:04 AM GMT
But you only leave officially once those rules are no longer valid?
Report Shrewd_dude • February 1, 2020 2:08 AM GMT
No. We were previously in a Union. We have now left that Union. We have agreed until the end of the year we will share the same rules.
