British government officials forged documents to produce "fake news stories" during the Cold War, newly released files show.
The Information Research Department (IRD) was the Foreign Office's secret propaganda unit. The files cover the early 1960s - the heyday of the IRD, when it employed between 400 and 600 people, according to Paul Lashmar, author of Britain's Secret Propaganda War.

Propaganda is quite normal during the war. You have to keep your people's morale up and try to deflate the enemy.
UK Gov fake news in the Telegraph and Mail on a daily basis.
So we all agree then. Govts lie to us via the media in times of (Cold) war and peace.
They still pay millions of (our) money to "charities" to put false stories discrediting opposition, or opposing other ideas all over the web.
