put nothing past gove,may and co ,but they,ll still have to add documents,get the EU to agree with documents and labour etc will want to question ATT GEN at dispatch box and ask if his printed advice has changed, cant see rees mogg and erg been hung out like lemmings,made to look absolute fools [ tools ] by DUP accepting bribes,
the fundamental point remains and if the uk/dup say they've got a legally binding unilateral escape clause through Geneva con,stormont which isn't even sitting etc, the backstop falls and surely THE EU/DUBLIN wont sign it off ,if so they might as well remove the backstop themselves and the likes of spain/gibb can haggle for other things cox at the dispatch box and erg,pundits,dup etc all say the worry is that under the present deal , they thinkit gives the EU an unfair leverage in future relationship talks,if the dup think they've got an escape clause that gives them,erg,torys a 100% lock over the EU on future talks,how on earth can the eu/.Dublin sign that off this like back in dec 17th when the backstop was 1st mentioned looks blindingly obvious to anybody bar those involved |

An absolute disgrace really, how can you vote something down not once but twice, but then jump on board despite nothing changing in a 3rd vote? I've given up anyway, let them have the deal, hopefully it comes back to bite them on the a**e |

Theresa May will embark on a final desperate scramble to win the Democratic Unionist party’s backing for her Brexit deal on Monday, in the hope that it could unlock parliament’s support at the third time of asking. With several prominent Brexiters, including the former work and pensions secretary Esther McVey, now willing to switch their vote and support the deal, government sources said they hoped DUP backing could create “a sense of momentum”. But with negotiations ongoing, ministers insisted on Sunday there would not be a third meaningful vote this week, before a crucial summit in Brussels, unless May believed she could win it. “We will only bring the deal back if we are confident that enough of our colleagues, and the DUP, are prepared to support it, so that we can get it through parliament. We’re not going to keep presenting it if we haven’t moved the dial,” said the chancellor, Philip Hammond. He was among senior ministers who met DUP politicians, including Nigel Dodds, on Friday. The DUP rejected the concessions won by the prime minister in Strasbourg last week after the attorney general, Geoffrey Cox, said they would not prevent the UK being held in the backstop permanently. The chancellor said the main emphasis now was on reassuring the DUP that new barriers would not be allowed to develop between Northern Ireland and Great Britain if the backstop was invoked. “I regard it as crucially important that we do not allow differences to grow up between Northern Ireland and Great Britain, and we’re looking for ways in which the government can reassure Northern Irish politicians about our clear intention to make sure that there are no such differences as we go forward, if the backstop had to come into force,” Hammond said. |

The proposal to the DUP Peston has said is going on sounds an awful idea to me.
The prime minister’s frantic last attempt to persuade Northern Ireland’s DUP to back her third meaningful vote on Tuesday involves a promise that if the controversial backstop is ever triggered, Great Britain would adopt any new food and business rules that could be forced by the EU on Northern Ireland. This is a high risk offer by Theresa May to NI’s unionist party - which has huge clout with her because without its votes in parliament her government would collapse. As a minister told me, for the DUP to accept the offer it would have to trust that a future prime minister and government would honour the pledge - which cannot be guaranteed even if May legislates for such alignment (because any law can always be repealed). Even if that wins the DUP over it would surely make everyone else she's trying to win over even less likely to switch. |
