Hanged at 9am on the dot.  10 minutes later my dad was born, which is how I remember the date.

Sad Christie Done him up like a kipper Sad

That was a terrible miscarriage of justice. Christie an evil *******.

That is why I am against the death penalty.
Report UBLE/REGY March 9, 2019 8:37 PM GMT
One reason we abolished it.....we hung the wrong man

Christie was eventually caught, I think the smell of all those women he killed and buried in his house and garden

eventually gave him away.

Fortunately we still had the death penalty when he was caught so he was hung.

Christie was the epitome of evil.
Report UBLE/REGY March 9, 2019 8:40 PM GMT
Some crimes now are also very evil....Brady and Hindley quite the worse...

Breivack in Sweden as well...I think why we did we not hang these people

But we cannot have it both ways...I think we were right to abolish it.

They still have in the USA...does not seem to reduce murders much tbh?
Report akabula March 9, 2019 8:49 PM GMT
We probably were right to abolish it when we did Ebul but I think advances in the forensics field in recent years means we should revisit it.
If it went to a public referendum I would vote for its return
Report themightymac March 9, 2019 8:53 PM GMT
You are right Aka but forensic evidence can be planted to secure a conviction.
Report UBLE/REGY March 9, 2019 8:55 PM GMT
You may well be right akabula...I think a public referendum may vote it back if called
Report the old nanny ;-) March 9, 2019 8:57 PM GMT
Think they done A poll 70 %  wanted it back Plain
Report mouse muldoon March 9, 2019 8:57 PM GMT
Should have it voluntary anyway.
Report UBLE/REGY March 9, 2019 8:59 PM GMT
I still think the problem is the people that use them, not the weapons themselves......but we could do with a solution

so many wasted young lives

A guy in the local Garden Centre went crazy and murdered the manager. His DNA was found all over the Chrysanthemums and the Daffodils but he still swears to this day that they were plants Crazy

Me personally, I would vote in favour of the death penalty to be reintroduced but it will never happen in the U.K.

That's so bad Mac. ashamed of myself for laughing. BlushLaugh

I think wrongful convictions are less likely today.  There are, of course, cases where the guilt is absolutely proven.  The Lee Rigby case for one.

Laugh ditto akabula

Guilty is Guilty Lybertyne

If someone is found guilty of murder, then if w bring the death sentence it must apply equally

Unless we find some extenuating circumstances

Otherwise we would not have justice
Report UBLE/REGY March 9, 2019 11:24 PM GMT
I do not think we should bring back capital punishment

They have it in the USA, but it does not stop murders being committed

I would have thought being locked up in prison for the rest of ones natural life is punishment enough.

Harold Shipman hung himself he could not face it.

They are not exactly nice places, and the company could be better.
Report lybertyne March 9, 2019 11:52 PM GMT
If we had proper prisons.  I'm an admirer of the ADX Florence.  UK prisons are a joke with the amount of drugs and mobile phones going around.

Timothy Evans was reported as being illiterate, yet he signed a confession written up by the police.
