Apologies about formatting. Couldn't be bothered to type it all out.
'A Star Is Born' had a decent start, but tailed off
Halfway through 'Roma', which looks nice, but..........
Halfway through 'The Wife', but isn't that great

Seen Green Book and The Wife. Both excellent films with great performances by the actors. Highly recommend viewing but both could be equally seen on the small screen. Of course Boho Rhapsody was a truly enjoyable trip down memory lane. The missus did not see Live Aid so I told her how electric it was at the time and it was much better then the film but I replayed it on youtube and it was not, they smashed it on the film. Of course seeing it live was something else because they were so much better than everyone else who played that night and Queen were almost a forgotten 70's band at the time. I digress. Watch it on big screen if you can.

I enjoyed Green Book and fancy it to win best picture, Lady Gaga was great in A Star is Born, but the movie is average. Rami Malek IS Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody and will surely pick up the best actor award! I haven't seen Roma, but I've had to lay it at the price. That's about it so far.

Finished 'Roma' last night. Should have watched it as a whole. The second half is the pay-off for the very slow burning first hour.
Makes you think about it a lot afterwards, which not many films do.
Will try and get the Richard E Grant film in, in next day or two The Kodi version of 'The Favourite' is awful quality

I take it that the Academy won't actually be deciding the winners on merit, but will instead reward whichever Diversity or cultural minority makes the loudest noise?

Seen The favourite. Slightly odd as you would expect from the director but quite funny and moving at times, but definitely began to drag in the 2nd half. Colman is an excellent actress with a wide range but a bit OTT in this for me (probably down to the director). I like Stone and she was good in the first part where her character was mainly comedic, but didn't pull off the 2nd part where she was supposed to be a complete b.itch. On the other hand I thought Weizs nailed Sarah Churchill. Hope she wins

Seen a few of them - thought Black Klansmann was alright, wouldnt go mad about it but quite enjoyable - did the same with Roma as one of the previous posters - fell asleep after the first hour which was soporific, then found the last hour ok - massively over-rated in my book as a film, so it will probably win a load of Oscars. Thought Melissa McCarthy was brilliant in Can You ever Forgive me, but it doesnt look like she has a chance of winning - havent seen the Favourite yet, but if Olivia coleman wins that has to be a good thing - seems like a good sort and if anyone from Peep Show wins an Oscar then that has to be a good thing. A Star Is Born was alright, Lady Gaga did a good job, but a film that has already been remade countless times shouldnt really be in the running for anything other than Acting honours

sixtwosix • February 22, 2019 2:16 PM GMT No doubt awards will be dished out to satisfy diversity , quality as usual will play no part. --- I have absolutely NO doubt the BBC will be scanning the event to find some diversity angle to make the centrepiece of their coverage. They always do now. The brits the other day I knew they'd find something and their centrepiece was some t1t virtue signalling his #metoo credentials.

Glenn Close was going to be more a career award, so no real heartbreak.
Don't think 'Green Book' will go down in history as a great film. 'Roma' is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. 'Bohemian Rhapsody' won a lot of awards, which was surprising. Not a great film.

And as sure a night follows day, the guy (will gompertz) who covers showbiz for the BBC turned his oscar coverage into banging the diversity drum. If only there was a market on it. I can't remember that guy ever giving a report that didn't have a diversity/feminist angle.

Not a chance they would let the Netflix film win. Olivia deserves her Oscar for the superb work as Sophie in Peep Show.
It really is backslapping nonsense

There is no justice, if peep show performance is to be allowed. Big Suze (Sophie) should win one for "sexiest bum jogging in front of David Mitchell". It's a an award .. whenever I watch that clip I think that it can't come too soon. Pun intended.
