was out on a job and an old girl i was doing a job for asked if i would go to her local corner shop and buy a few bits for her as she had trouble getting out in the wet and windy weather ,among the bits she wanted was s a packet of "cooks pie and mash " from the freezer anyway as a lover of the occasional culinary treat that is pie and mash i thought i would get some for myself and bought 3 packs ,anyway wasnt really expecting it to be any bottle and followed the instructions and whacked it in the microwave, oven took to long ,well i was pleasantly suprised at how good it was and ended up demolishing the whole lot 3 pies 3 mash and liqour .............what a bargain change outta six squid to boot ! anyone else tried it ?

FOYLESWAR, I take it you are talking about 'Cook' the frozen food chain? If so there is one in West Dulwich and I do pop in there every now and then and I'm never disappointed with their meals. They do Italian meatballs in a very rich tomato sauce and a boar ragu, "Slow-cooked shredded wild boar in a rich red wine sauce with chestnut mushrooms, topped with a crumb of Regato cheese, parsley and black olives," both of which are very tasty indeed.
just had a closer look on the packet and although it say "cooks pie and mash " on the front of pack it says kershaws frozen foods family owned since 1946 .........the only place i have seen them sold is a little indian owned grocers shop in mottingham . next lot i buy i am going to try it in the oven if i have the patience . the pies were really tasty and the mash (no lumps )and liquor was as well . prob better cooked in oven than the micro ,well worth the money though and worth a try if ya can find them imo .
Oh you live in Mottingham then FOYLESWAR? That's not too far from me and back in the day I used to play against Eltham College at rugby, hockey and cricket. W.G.Grace retired there!

yeah just round the corner from eltham collage slippy ,never realised wg lived in mottingham lane ,they have a swimming baths/fitness gym named after eric liddel the runner chariots of fire fame in mottingham lane, woulda thought wg was deserving of some recognition

Just bought a couple of the same ones you have in Sainsbury’s, on your recommendation, for £2 each and will try them over the next couple of day’s.
I will try them in the oven on your advice. (if things go wrong, it’s always nice to have someone else to blame).
My wife is very good friends with Fred and Brenda Cooke (retired) who owned the east end shops and there are a couple left that are still owned by other members of the family in Broadway Market E8 & Hoxton St N1.
The pie & mash shop I use now is Robin’s in Station Rd Chingford or High St Wanstead where a single pie & mash is £3.80 and that suits me as I’m not a big eater.
Just bought a couple of the same ones you have in Sainsbury’s, on your recommendation, for £2 each and will try them over the next couple of day’s.
I will try them in the oven on your advice. (if things go wrong, it’s always nice to have someone else to blame).

happy good luck hope ya like them ,seen online the sainsburys ones different picture on the box to mine but must be the same firm just diff packaging ,yeah let us know how they turned out !
the last time i was at a pie and mash shop was about 2 years ago manzies in deptford double ,pie and double mash cost about £6 iirc .
Going back a few years there was never a pie and mash shop in Wanstead,the 101 to East Ham,funnily enough given the demographics i can see it would do ok now.
The only pie and mash shop I go to in London FOYLESWAR and pa lapsy is 'Harringtons' in Tooting. It has been there for decades but I only go once or twice a year now but it is very good. The chilli vinegar is a bit fierce so be careful with that there!
I couldn't slag it Slippy,the essence of comfort food,only had it a couple of times with a local gourmet buddy(without liquor) and a fair few years ago,but i got it,a good concept.
you can take your pick in some shops ,gravy or liquor . the liqour in the those frozen ones the thread is about is really good

The pastry should be flakey and have that smell and taste that we are all familiar with but it doesn’t. The meat in the pie also is not the same as in the links below. (scotch beef)
The liquor also is not made from the juice of eels and parsley which is the traditional way. 6/10

I had m&S chicken, ham and leek puff pastry pie for lunch today £4 its large and delicious, 9/10 imo you wont be disappointed.
First time I went was Goddards in Deptford High St, dirty finger nail in my mash, George Goddard just picked it out and said there you go son, all good now, told, him to piss off and never went back, reminded him of that many years later at Catford dogs
