I used to pinch a few blackjacks and fruit salads from the Pik 'N' Mix in Woolworths in Streatham when I was about 5 or 6. I never told my Mum though as she would have boxed my ears!

30 odd years ago either the mum or the local copper would have done the same Slippy.....nowadays, the mum will no doubt(in most cases), be dragging the kid down the police station getting the kid to make a statement of complaint against the officer.........just a snippet of a far wider problem!!

When I was about 8 or 9, I painted an old Ha'penny silver, with airfix model paint and took it to the off licence on the corner, where the old lady who couldn't see very well accepted it as a shilling, and I bought some coconut ice and some crisps.
About an hour later her daughter knocked on the door and told my dad, I owned up and she made him swap the ha'penny for a real shilling.


I expected a major telling off, but my dad thought it showed initiative and was laughing too much to do it.

SlippyBlue, obvious derail, however - how would you compare Dulwich (i heard it was nicer there) to surrounding areas such as Brixton, Camberwell, New Cross, Lewisham, Peckham, Deptford, Woolwich etc? Thinking of moving back to SE for work but don't want to end up in some **** pit again TIA.

I've got a mate (no, it's not me) who eats stuff in the supermarket as he goes around. He buys a bag of almonds for instance and has eaten half of them before he gets to the checkout to weigh up. I tell him it's theft but he'll have none of it.
