I've just been for a swim .

I shall be swimming shortly on a regular basis.

Need to be able to beat my kids in a 50 metre race in Spain in summer.
They have not beat me yet .

I am 55 , son is 20 and daughter 28 and a triathlete.

Not a chance I could beat them over a distance longer than 50 metres.
They have stamina but I can do 50 metres without taking a breath .

sixtwosix , I'm made up with myself , for doing what i just did . It's a wonderful way to exercise . I'm gunna love being able to learn other swimming styles , other than the doggie paddle type thing , that i've just done .

Good stuff Culvin , what persuaded you to try it and why not sooner ?

THANKS , sixtwosix , geoff m , and Lady Faye Verrit . In the past , 6two6 , i never had the confidence , i was afraid of the water . I remember visiting the swimming baths , as a boy with the school and it was a terrible experience . The water was freezing and the bleach  ,stung my eyes . I always thought it was a difficult thing to learn , so i never bothered .I'm made up i did it , and also , as quickly as i did .

Ive just been out to buy some cigars , Dr , and i had a little gab with the lovely lady in the shop . I told her about my swim , and i showed her my style , and she said " Thats the breaststroke" and i immediately thought , i wouldn't half like to give your breasts a stroke . By the way , Doc , every morning , i wake up all sweaty , what do you think causes that .I'm not in any pain or anything , i'm just all sweaty , when i wake up . . There is an good size outdoor lido not far from me in Brockwell Park, a mate of mine does yoga classes a couple of times a week in the attached gym and she says there are always a few people swimming in the mornings (including today)where the temperature was below zero! I do like swimming but I think I'll pass on that one personally

I can't swim Culvin  and I have tried , I have little fear of water , but I very nearly drowned aged about 10 , I can ****g
assure you swimming 10 meters in a pool on my first attempt after many years Would infact be astounding , I have managed to
sort of swim a few   meters in the sea (with the tide ) ,we need to meet up mate you can show me the Ropes

You show me how to swim 40 meters in a few Hours and I will learn you to drive in the same amount of Time

Should try it without the arm bands, and chest duck inflatable!

If anyone manages to swim 40 meters on their first day they are doing well

I wish I could swim.  I really do. But.........

Done it a few times myself. Whilst walking The Ridgeway and cycling in Scotland.

Whilst its illegal in  England(unless you get landowners permission) as you probably know its permitted in Scotland.

As long as you leave it as you found it canna see a problem.

casemoney ,I think i was able to do what i did , because i ignored my thoughts and my fear , and i just went with my instinct . I felt almost like a baby . A baby , i'm sure you know , can be placed in water , and that babe will instinctly swim . It wasn't easy , i was afraid , but as i said , i ignored fear and i just went for it .

Yes CUlvin .I think Lomond is one of the places they where trying to restrict due to the carnage/mess left behind by wild campers.

Unfortunately a few spoil if for the majority as usual.

Go wild camping to enjoy  our glorious countyside then trash it leaving /rubbish/plast/barbecues etc behind.

The place they have gone to enjoy they then chose to ruin.

I camped @ the side of Loch Carron up in the Highlands about 4 miles away from nearest farmhouse/civilisation.
But had a visit in the night from what i can only guess where Deer.
Anyway wasnt  opening the tent as the midges would have had me as a midnight feast
So used an old camping trick of a balloon blown up and burst  they soon cleared off. Sounded like a stampede.

Geoff I know exactly what you mean about the midges, they are viciously relentless around the Lochs/Highlands.

geoff you are right but it wasn`t actually the tourists/visitors to Loch Lomond who created such a mess with their rubbish, it was groups of local plebs who went binge drinking there at the weekends during the summer. Ruined it for all the decent visitors.

Whenever , i'm in a place like Loch Lomond , i'm the type who visitor , who not only collects all my own rubbish , i also often , pick up any other rubbish , i see around me . I detest litter .

Just getting ready to go out for another little swim .I haven't been back since i went last week . The Voliar Gym opens at 6.30 , it takes me 20 mins , to get there .

We're not all the same in water, and this is to do with buoyancy.

Black people don't usually make good swimmers, yet they usually have the edge on whites when it comes to other sports.
This is all to do with their body mass, which impacts negatively on their buoyancy.

Some people are exceptionally buoyant, and it's these types who soon learn to swim and make the best swimmers.
