In joyous liberal Iran. Apparently dogs are considered unclean by a certain religion so they want to make it pretty much impossible to own one.

I was just out for a walk and thinking a how much joy dogs bring to owners and those around them. What a contrast when I come in to read that from these .....

Do they have to take their cats out for a walk?
Report Just Checking January 30, 2019 4:55 PM GMT
Don't know. Egyptians used to worship cats didn't they?
In the great scheme of things what proof is there that Ra the sun god and cat worship isn't more real than anything they currently believe.
Answer: Nothing.

I think I'll put "Cult of Anubis" on my next census form.

Their are rules in the UK about carrying dogs in cars.

Re the OP, what's wrong with that?  Their country, their rules.  Something our once fine country should learn, imo.

Look at Singapore's drug rules as another example.  If you're caught in possession, there's a fair chance you will die.  What's wrong with that?

https://www.tripsavvy.com/drug-laws-in-singapore-1629780

As per Schedule 2 of the Act, the death penalty may be prescribed if you are convicted of possessing any of the following:
Heroin - 15 grams or more
Cocaine - 30 grams or more
Morphine - 30 grams or more
Hashish - 200 grams or more
Methamphetamine - 250 grams or more
Cannabis - 500 grams or more
Opium - 1,200 grams or more

"8.2% of the UK population are cannabis abusers; in Singapore, it is 0.005%. For ecstasy, the figures are 1.8% for the UK and 0.003% for Singapore; and for opiates—such as heroin, opium, and morphine - 0.9% for the UK and 0.005% for Singapore," claimed Teo. "We do not have traffickers pushing drugs openly in the streets, nor do we need to run needle exchange centers."
Report Just Checking January 30, 2019 5:49 PM GMT
What's that got to do with anything FFS. While I don't like cannabis, the sentence "are cannabis abusers" implies something of a bias...

I thought you liked dogs Trilby? So you'd be ok if like in a few decades European countries start suppressing dog ownership due to illiberal religious rubbish being forced on people once they reach enough to force it?

I love dogs but wtf are we to challenge the Iranians rules?

Lol, the way the EU and it's demographic is heading you might not be far off the mark there Wink
Report Just Checking January 30, 2019 6:00 PM GMT
I'll challenge them as they are bollox!

Would you challenge that too?

Not saying, I'll just get more abuse for it from you speciesist b*stards.

It just so depresses me I just want to go into a corner and "wash myself" to reduce my stress levels.
Report trilby22 January 30, 2019 6:11 PM GMT
I don't know the Iran story but if all they're doing is making dog ownership illegal, well, that's their law.
Report Just Checking January 30, 2019 6:12 PM GMT
Why would I challenge that, cows are dogs too. #JeSuisErmintrude

I thought one benefit of having imported so many muslims in the last few years would be that people would know exactly what kind of people they are. So the next time someone tells them how they role in their own countries, people won't act surprised.

In a country where humans haven't yet acquired some of the basic rights, why is the OP surprised with this law? Many countries in the world still haven't got any infrastructure for animal health. I won't be surprised if Iran is one of them. Add to it the fact that you need to take a bath after touching a dog or your prayers ain't valid no more and the law makes perfect sense.

China had banned dog ownership for 10 years because they didn't have the resources to treat diseases resulting from dog bites.

Its a huge world and not everyone loves dogs the way we do. Some can't afford to, like in China's case.

Let's just hope when the muslims take over Europe, they can use the existing infrastructure to treat European dogs better.Mischief

had. in the 80s.

Now they eat them :) As ridiculous as this may sound, some countries are getting rid of their stray dogs issues by feeding them to the Chinese(countries where Chinese are doing massive projects, in Africa and Asia). As i said, the world is a big place and not everyone is like us.

You should also read up on dog meat consumption in China, where the law prevents dog meat as food but is still openly consumed(highest in the world). Even the law isn't treated the same way around the world as it is in Europe.

I have never understood our obsession with expecting the world to be like us.

It always used to amuse me back in the 90s, when I visited my parents in Slough and took my dogs with me.

I'd walk the mile and a half from the station with the dogs to my parents' house, and at some point would invariably be confronted by two or three blokes in pyjamas strolling towards us. Five paces behind the blokes there'd then be the usual line of veiled women carrying the shopping bags. When they spotted the dogs, the pyjamas, followed by the line of veils, would all have to cross to the other side of the road, then back again once they'd passed me. Like the worst Benny Hill chase sketch ever.

One time, for a laugh, I crossed the road just after they had, so they all had to cross straight back again. Then I crossed back too, before they could get past, so the line had to cross over for a third time.

The blokes' faces were a picture. It just needed speeding up, with Yakety Sax playing in the background.

Above story reminds me of an old joke. Apologies in advance.

Guy is on holiday in a far off land and sees a woman walking towards him with the man 10 paces behind.
Guy stops the man and says "Wait sir, I've been to this land before. I thought the culture in this land was that woman should walk behind the man?"
Man: "Yes, it was..".
Guy: "Why did it change?".
Man: "Land Mines".

The RSPCA were the first animal charity in the world. One of its founders was the great William Wilberforce.

The UK has led the way in animal welfare. May it continue to be so. Happy

In the Old Testament God told the Jews not to plough with a donkey and an ox together. Why? Because the ox is stronger and it would be too demanding for the donkey to keep up.

Similarly God said do not muzzle an ox when it's used to tread the grain. What a marvellous example of compassion!

The OP is correct to challenge the practices that are soon to be seen in a town near you...

Now, where's my halal full English...

A taxi driver who refused to pick up a blind couple and their guide dog has lost his licence.

Mark Whittle and his wife were waiting to be collected by Mohammed Saghir, 59, in Nottingham, in December.

After a member of the public saw the driver pull up, look over and leave, Mr Whittle said the taxi firm told him it was because of his dog, Archer.

Mr Saghir, who was previously fined at court, has now lost his licence after a council review.

The company sent another car to pick up Mr Whittle, who is totally blind, and his wife, who is visually impaired, and told him to report the driver the next day, he said.

Mr Whittle said he didn't want it to happen to anyone else.
