so i finished my breakfast and then chucked the crusts of the toast up on to  one of the back shed roofs.A crow perched on a telephone wire came down and treated himself to a crust and then flew away to a tree 200 yards away.there he was joined by 4 other Crows (remember they were all 200 yards away from the toast).the next thing that happened was strange, the five crows flew back to the shed together and they all eat the remainder of the toast.my question "how did the four other crows know about the toast unless the first crow told them .ITS a Sort off "listen mates, there is some lovely hot buttered toast on the shed roof about 200 yards from here, lets go get it"
if they can not talk they must have fantastic eye sight to be able to see toast 200 yards away.Grin

Of course they can "If you come near my piece of toast, Corby, I'll peck your eyes out".
All birds have excellent eyesight, better than ours.

You should try them with bacon . They might come and take it from your hand . As a youngster we had a tame Jackdaw who would dive bomb a breakfast plate for a rasher of streaky .

I suppose a vocalisation that is merely "I've found food" would be a huge evolutionary advantage, and then they just follow the finder.
Bees can do it. I mean some animals can understand other animals can't they, don't like some animals learn the "there's a flying predator" call of other animals and know how to respond and so on? (I think I read some animals can have different calls for different types of predator and so on).

There are even Counting Crows, so I've heard. Round here, hanging around, when they aren't taking a holiday in spain.

According to this
https://www.bto.org/volunteer-surveys/gbw/about/background/projects/garden-rook-survey/behaviour-guide
Vocalization
"All corvids are noisy birds, who vocalize to tell others about the location and quality of food, the membership of a pairbond, warning about predators and possibly even their name. We wanted to know what vocalizations were occurring and whether they accompanied visual displays."
So seems they likely do.

Something I've seen, a few times, is when a starling is injured, that it will attract many others, flapping around it,
and squawking loudly, unable to help but obviously traumatised!

Try saying that when the last thing you see is a sparrowhawk coming at you at 100mph or KENNY MANN'S BIRD MURDERING FRIENDS are crawling into your nest!

Crows are very intelligent.

My missus told me she saw a programme where a crow was trying to drink water from a hole or a vessel of some sort but couldn't reach down far enough.

So he went away and dropped some stones in to raise the level of the water.

Not even all humans would think of that.

Maybe they went down to pay their respects to Freddie the Fox who looked left instead of right when crossing the road?

Yes loads of blackbirds, resident pair in garden had 3/4 broods this year,i give them sultanas, clever starling now pretends to be a blackbird and asks for some as well after probably observing the soft touch with the free sultanas, his buds though come down(and he is a very popular starling judging by the amount of his pals} and i don't want to be robbed buying sultanas for the stranger starlings.

theres a video on youtube of a crow in the usa iirc and he had loads of porcupine quills in his body ,he sat outside a farm making a noise and the farmer came out and the crow saw the crow needed help and pulled the quills out ! the crow must have known that only a human would have been able to help him .
