Sorry, I'm late to the party....

tictacman1 is close to my heart, except for the "Foxtail"!

Unless you are doing something with the rest of the animal, I think it would be obscene!

Re "Cullen Skink" by Baxters....this was a recipe given by someone, in a competition!

I recall, at the time, that it was about £1.35 when others in the range were perhaps £0.50....

I haven't seen it on the shelves, for a fair while, but on the internet people are asking for almost £10.00!

Not anywhere near to a good "Bouillabaisse", and worth making your own (you would have to be useless, for it not to be, at least, edible)!

JC I'm the same. I can eat tomato soup and also baked beans in tomato sauce but detest ketchup and smell/sight of a tomato juice makes me want to heave..

Me neither Makybe_Diva, I cannot remember the last time I've had a bowl of soup, it must be at least 30 years I would say. I do like a fish stew though but that doesn't really count as soup I wouldn't have thought.

Roasted Red pepper and Red Onion(Homemade) add can of tomatoes to make  pasta sauce
Broccolli and Stilton (homemade as trilby stated)
Leek and Potato (homemade)

Homemade varieties beat shop bought by a country mile as you can get the balance of salt/sugar/acid and seasonings to your own personal liking

"I do like a fish stew though but that doesn't really count as soup I wouldn't have thought."

Just a lumpy version of soup innit??
Report geoff m • January 24, 2019 6:08 PM GMT
Just got back from a 5 hour Peak District walk and a flask of Roasted Red Pepper and Red Onion was fabulous with 1/2 red chilli and fresh basil added just to give it a kick and leave a warm glow @ the back of the throat.

Whilst reading this, I'm I'm enjoying a comforting cup of my Beef & Tomato with Chilli drink and thinking "is this soup?

Would it become soup if thickened slightly, and served in a bowl?

That said, I'm not the biggest fan of most of Baxters, as they are particularly watery!

The exception is their "French Fried Onion" with an added splash of Sherry, and Gruyere topped Croutons.

Interestingly, and without exaggeration, how is it that on cookery contests such as CDWM, whenever soup is on the menu,
it is always served looking like baby food!

Tehy didnt used to be LFV.

Commercialism dictates as they strive to increase profits they have to increase water content.

Yorkshire Provender Cauliflower cheese soup (with cheddar and kale) is a delight.

I hated cauliflower cheese as a kid, now I love it. In fact I just bought cauliflower today to have some later this week.
Funny how you change as you get older. How long before I long for a shed, and start reading books on the history of traction engines?

Young lefties do tend to be strongly against cauli cheese. Then as they get older and wiser they come to appreciate it's charms.
Report trilby22 • January 26, 2019 9:10 PM GMT
I mostly make my own soup these days but I'm partial to some of Ainsley's and Batchelor's cup-a-soups.

In particular the former's Broccoli & Stilton and Thai Chicken & Lemongrass and the latter's Potato & Leek and Cream of Vegatable when I'm in a hurry or can't be bothered.

Adding a half-a-teaspoon of turmeric powder, several shakes of black pepper and a splash of chilli sauce makes a world of difference.

Trust me!

I'll ponder this once I finish reading this really interesting chapter about boiler enhancements in the Clayton and Shuttelwork traction engine series.
