The death of Windsor Davies and the fact that you no longer see "It Ain't Half-Hot Mum" because it could be offensive reminded me that I read an article recently about famous old songs that are now never/rarely played on the radio for similar reasons (not necessarily race).
This is partly garnered from there and partly from a few I thought of

1) Anything by Gary Glitter - A good thing for a variety of reasons
2) Hey Joe -Violence against women presumably
3) Ahab the Arab - obvious
4) They're Coming To Take Me Away - Mention of "funny farm" I seem to remember.
5) Young Girl - Must admit I thought this was a bit dodgy at the time
6) Go Away Little Girl - The original version (in GB) was by Mark Wynter and that's the one I remember. Didn't think much about it at the time but I was only 12. Does include the line "I'm not supposed to be alone with you"
7) Baby It's Cold Inside - Before my time but I sort of know it. Apparently can be read as encouraging rape.

Must be more. I should think there are one or two that would be homophobic for instance.

Maurice Chevalier, 'Thank Heaven For Little Girls'

how far would this get today?

Each time I see a little girl
Of five or six or seven
I can't resist a joyous urge
To smile and say
Thank heaven for little girls

Shocked

My Sharona

Ooh, my little pretty one, my pretty one
When you gonna give me some time, Sharona
Ooh, you make my motor run, my motor run
Got it coming off o' the line, Sharona
Never gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty mind
I always get it up, for the touch of the younger kind

My, my, my, aye-aye, whoa!
M-m-m-my Sharona
Come a little closer, huh, a-will ya, huh?
Close enough to look in my eyes, Sharona
Keeping it a mystery, it gets to me
Running down the length of my thigh, Sharona
Never gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty mind
I always get it up, for the touch of the younger kind
My, my, my, aye-aye, whoa!
M-m-m-my Sharona
M-m-m-my Sharona
When you gonna give to me, a gift to me
Is it just a matter of time, Sharona?
Is it d-d-destiny, d-destiny
Or is it just a game in my mind, Sharona?
Never gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty mind
I always get it up, for the touch of the younger kind
My, my, my, aye-aye, whoa!
M-m-m-m-m-m-m-my, my, my, aye-aye, whoa!

Anything by the lost prophets - I an Watkins was the lead singer - although to be far they probably wouldn't get any airplay anyway.

Also didn't Jonathon King produce a few hits.

Hey Joe played almost daily on Absolute Classic Rock; My Sharona also played occasionally

Jonathan King did,but they were rubbish and some weren't in his own name.
Sharon was a bit dicey wasn't it.
Yes "Young Girl" was possibly pushing it even in the late 60s. Probably a favourite with Sir JS.

I don't really listen to music on the radio tbh. Have a HUGE CD collection.
"Hey Joe" was mentiones as a no-no in that article. Think it was by David Hepworth who was the presenter of "Old Grey Whistle Test" in its 2nd incarnation if memory serves.

Thru These Walls - Phil Collins (a single from 1982)

I can see thru' my windows
I can see the girls and the boys
I can see thru' my windows
I can see them playing with toys
Oh I hope it won't end
If I promise not to touch, just be a friend
Life is so lonely
I don't get high off just being me
I like pretending
Wanting to touch them, wanting to see
It's only normal
Creeping behind you,now don't shout,'cos it's alright
They keep the windows locked and the door shut tight

Was only a youngster myself @ the time so totally unaware just thought a catchy tune:

But OMG
Young Girl

Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run girl
You're much too young girl
With all the charms of a woman
You've kept the secret of your youth
You led me to believe you're old enough
To give me love
And now it hurts to know the truth
Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run girl
You're much too young girl
Beneath your perfume and your make-up
You're just a baby in disguise
And though you know that it's wrong to be
Alone with me
That come on look is in your eyes

Terry is correct. A great song which Union Gap, in their current form, still tour with and sing. (Admittedly mostly at holiday camps where I have had the pleasure!)
