Councils will charge firms who will have the choice of whether or not to pass the cost on to employees.

It sounds a lot but it's only roughly the equivalent of one cup of designer coffee per day.

These council pensions don't pay themselves

They already do where I live (small town, with NO on street parking anywhere and no station. £4 a day for car parks (£1 on sundays and evenings). Assuming 250 days a year at work, that's £1000 a year.

10 years ago I was paying £40 per week in parking near my work.

Yes, I'm surprised car parking provided by an employer isn't treated as a benefit in kind.

Well wup de do, I'm so glad you won't miss the money. Btw, seeing as you're in the mood to freely give your money away, there are families out there that are already struggling that this will break. Why not give it to them instead of a bunch of over privileged, self important layabouts?

You're right, Gmad.

I don't want to see people on low incomes priced off the roads or made to struggle financially.

What I do want is fewer cars on the road to ease congestion and pollution. There are far too many people using their cars when they don't need to.

Why don't more drivers car share? My guess is that they want their own private space and don't want to be committed to leaving home and work at a specific time. Clearly the opportunity to cut their fuel costs in half is not incentive enough.

I don't know what it's like in other parts of the country but in London and the South-East, it's a nightmare getting anywhere unless you go between 9pm and 6am.

It's in part because people with BUNDLES of income (I'm not talking about £50 or £60K a year) maybe in the millions a year, don't see why they should have to pay more tax than everyone else. That they can earn so much means they are already very fortunate and would still e very wealthy if they put a proportionate amount in.
