not just the generation thing - we were very radical as young - but I think the eu has a lot to answer for.
The issue is - who are we working for ?? Are the politicians working for the general population (who are nearly all wage or salary slaves only months from disaster should the income stop) or????? I think they work for themselves - I have seen them do it within the party as a shop steward and activist, latterly as an official (very unpopular with the hierarchy coz I kept asking questions). The games played by people to eventually get to westminster were disgusting - nothing to do with socialism - all to do with one's place and career. I don't work like that. The end came when I was dealing with an implementation of national pay grade change and another (very big union) tried to recruit me and pay me for every member I could poach from my current local union (8000 members) No - don't want to be part of those games any more. |

I can se the same thing in local politics there is a lot of party speak and a lot of it is rubbish , but central government is as much to blame as local councillors

Much of my experience was before during and just after the thatcher era (imagine what that was like)
After I left I went into business - this is where the 'who is going to pay for it all' line comes from. I still have interests and love a bet too - I have taken plenty of risks over the years. anyway there is a police helicopter hovering over the woods at the back of my place - someone has grassed me up ho ho!!! good night and good luck |

No i agree the party drifted to blair and yes he won 3 elections but got us involved in the disaster in the middle east , i think we all realised he was not a socilast but people accepted this after the 18 years of tory rule
The reason they got three terms was the fact they were centre left ! The people of this country will accept centre left or right but not the extremes on either side. |

The manifesto for 2017 really wasn't all that radical unless you just listened to people that think anyone left of thatcher was a socialist.
The student fees policy was a bad one for multiple reasons. It doesn't help with addressing the inequality in education, was mostly a middle class subsidy and is aimed at the people who would vote for them anyway |
