From the Mirror a few weeks before the 2016 referendum :

Nigel Farage warns today he would fight for a second referendum on leaving Europe if the remain campaign won by a narrow margin next month. The Ukip leader said a small defeat for his leave camp would be “unfinished business” and predicted pressure would grow for a re-run of the 23 June ballot.

Farage told the Mirror: “In a 52-48 referendum this would be unfinished business by a long way. If the remain campaign win two-thirds to one-third that ends it.”

"If we were to lose narrowly, there'd be a large section, particularly in the Conservative Party, who'd feel the prime minister is not playing fair, that the Remain side is using way more money than the Leave side and there would be a resentment that would build up if that was to be the result."

Posted to make sure that if anyone is feeling uncomfortable about supporting another referral to the good people of the of our great country then they shouldn't. The King of Brexit had one lined up if the 2016 referendum had gone the other way ...

but the (crucial) difference is, if the Ref result had been 52 to 48 in favour of Remain, we would not be having the humungous campaign for a 2nd ref rammed down our throats by the government, the media, the banks, the big businesses, and the lawyers  on a daily basis for the last 2 and a half years.

Yes, the last 2 and a half years would of been a lot less hassle.

More second referendum hypocracy from Brexiteers :

From Mays speech in Stoke today ...

“When the people of Wales (in 1997) voted by a margin of 0.3%, on a turnout of just over 50%, to endorse the creation of the Welsh assembly, that result was accepted by both sides and the popular legitimacy of that institution has never seriously been questioned. Parliament understood this fact when it voted overwhelmingly to trigger article 50. And both major parties did so too when they stood on election manifestos in 2017 that pledged to honour the result of the referendum.”

However parliamentary records show that in December 1999, May was among a large number of Conservative MPs to vote against the second reading of the government of Wales bill which would have set up the assembly, as did Brexiters who strongly back the 2016 referendum such as John Redwood, and Owen Paterson.

Further while the assembly was established, copies of the 2005 Conservative manifesto, under which May stood, stated: “In Wales we will work with the assembly and give the Welsh people a referendum on whether to keep the assembly in its current form, increase its powers or abolish it.”

Nick Clegg - Oxford Unions Debate on the EU Referendum - November 2015:

"We also know that even if we decide overwhelmingly to stay in, there will be some voices and I hope it isn’t Nigel (Farage) or Sir William because I think this is a fate that shouldn’t befall them as they are decent, decent characters. But there will be some people who like those Japanese soldiers who continue fighting the last war because no-one had told them it had ended (in some Pacific island), who will carry on arguing and arguing and arguing………………………………

The rest of us will just move on and carry on with the rest of our lives"
