It`s all about opinion but sometimes the sequel is better than the original.

I liked French Connection II a lot better than the original. Gene Hackman one of the best actors of modern times.

scrap that, I got my Rockys mixed up, Rocky 2 wasn't that great, I was thinking of Rocky 3 (the best of the series for me)

Rocky 4 was my personal favorite

Rocky 3 was better than 1 and 2 as well personally

Terminator 2 always an obvious one

the good the bad and the ugly is usually thought to be better
than a fistful of dollars and for a few dollars more, not sure
which is best meslf. especially after the new edits appeared
that made more sense of the first two.

gb&u is also considered a prequel

The Bounty,Anthony Hopkins, much better than  Mutinity on the Bounty, with Brando and the earlier one with Charles Laughton

dambuster , I myself much prefer the Clark Gable version of mutiny . As regards the brando version ,he should never have worked in Hollywood , again after the way he carried on during that production . I loved him in The Men , Waterfront and Streetcar , but i've now grown to detest him . Have you ever seen an actor more in love with himself . James Cagney and Spencer Tracy would have wiped the floor with him .

Debbie's Desires 2 was far better than the original, Pump Fiction 2 and Edward p enishands were miles ahead of the first, they pushed the cinematography to a new era with those two and added Dolby surrounded to the experience.

Apocalypse After?

Agree with the OP on The French Connection II. Both 'Connections' were v.good films, but having re-watched 'Connection II' several more times than the first, I guess I prefer II!  And agree that Hackman was superb in that film, as he was all through the 70's.

True Hfink. Hackman one of the greatest actors of the 20th Century. He was absolutely fantastic in Mississippi Burning and Unforgiven.

Hackman was a TV actor who (surprisingly) got the part of Norman in "Lilith" alongside Warren Beatty. Who later cast him as his brother 'Buck' in Bonnie & Clyde. His career still didn't take off so back to TV he went. French Connection & Prime Cut kick-started the movie career but; i still don't think he achieved what he could have. And tbh; i don't think he gives a crap. A very inward actor was Mr Hackamn
