My favourite song of all time is the only song to have charted on the Billboard Hot 100 three separate times, by the same artist with the same version each time!

What is it?

I would imagine that it had to be released for the first time in the 50's based on the title and then subsequent in the 60's

I like Fats Domino, and a few years before him Fats Waller.  And Al Bowlly.  Al Bowlly gave a performance one night during the war.  He was offered the chance to stay overnight but declined and went home.  That night, a German bomb exploded outside his flat and he died.  He's buried in a mass grave.

In a tie in with the Daniel Blake thread on here , i was in the job centre about 3 years ago and i got talking with a lad who told me his benefits were about to be sanctioned because he refused to jump through various job hunting hoops . We talked about a few other things , one very interesting one being that his aunty became the first solo singer to have a number one in the UK singles chart . He told me his aunty's name was Lita Roza and the song she had the number one with was , "How Much Is That Doggie In The Window" .I just love music and i have a love for it from every decade .

I think we're going to need at least one clue, without giving it away too easily

Was it also a hit in the UK, and if so, what year (originally, if more than once)?

Reet Petite - Jackie Wison. I know it made it twice, may have missed one.

Stewards Enquiry please re: my guess of 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.

I'm sure I heard or read something before Xmas that this song had achieved a rare event in the American charts, mainly because of the recent film release of the same name

According to this link, I'm correct. The article also btw gives up the name of '1999' by Prince as a three time chart entry.
