They boarded together at London Road, seems like they knew each other, or had an argument on that platform and it carried on to the train. To stab someone though tells me they more likely knew each other unless he was psychotic.

They do not think the victim and suspect knew each other.

Life not worth a rub these days, a 5 min piece on the evening news.
50 odd years ago it'd have been all over the news and papers for days until the trial. But in those days murder was less frequent because of the death penalty. Everything else has failed to stop the murder rate running out of control, there's only ONE SOLUTION THAT WORKS. and don't give me the snowflake answers that it doesn't work in America, the Yanks are a completely different breed to us, they have been killing each other for hundreds of years. If they brought it back, after the first few were had been hung or whatever, the rate would fall rapidly, and i guarantee 100% that all these lairy black kids who kill each other would think twice, if it saved one innocent life, it would all be worth it, and as for miscarriages of justice that happened all those years ago, they never had DNA back then.. |

Approx 330 murders in 1900 for half the current population ... 550 in 2011/12. Howard Shipman murdered 173 people by himself. Doubtftul whether such crimes would have been credited as murder going back in time. Also we've got a much bigger ethnic population since capital punishment was abolished, who are partial to stabbing each other.

What makes this crime "newsworthy" is the location (an affluent area at the heart of middle class Surrey) and the circumstances (in front of his 14yo son)

it's become newsworthy because it was on public transport in the middle of the day with many witnesses who were needed to identify/find the culprit, police want to douse down fears when it comes to public safety concerns.

Likely he was hiding in woods during daylight hours before attempting to walk north towards London or he's stayed put.Bound to be picked up within 24 hours
