Hi Culvin, I've actually got that soundtrack in my cd collection (I've been collecting soundtracks on & off for about 20 years, most of them by Italian composers, and reckon I must have circa 100 by Morricone). I do very much like the pieces with the vocalisations, most of them being performed by the great Edda Dell'Orso. Here is a rare snippet of her on film; Leone & Morricone can be seen in the small gathering:

Also agree on Doris Day, great voice. My father is a huge fan.

At certain times when i've listened to G Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue , the hairs on the back of my neck have stood up . It's an incredible piece of music and i can't not think of the city of New York when i hear it . Love

was he the first cross over - no not cross dresser - back in the 60s I can remember the furious debates about whether he was a clasical composer, musical man, jazz etc etc etc

oh the snobs gathered to have a go - - he was just so good - as was Ravel

maybe I am too long in the tooth  but some will know about this

I'm surprised to find out that Rhapsody in Blue was composed in 1924 . I would have guessed it was 10 years or so younger than that . It is a work of genius .

Ive only recently become aquainted with the music of Deep Purple , courtesy of our friend , trilby22 ,  but the songs i've heard so far  Child In Time and Hey Joe , those two songs tell me that they are one of the best bands ever .

check out when purple re formed - 'perfect strangers' album

Lord is a god on his own

many 'rock' bands have mixed with the classical - some were even from a classical background

but rachm, ravel and gerswhin were more modern and not necessarily liked amongst the establishment

as were Tchaikovsky, then Prokofiev -in an earlier era  -   all alternative  ideas are considered verboten, and not to be considered as 'classical'music

and as for my favourite     shostakovich  absolutely shocking - and produced during the period of the stalinist soviet union - a minor miracle he survived!!!
