New Years Day Concert Vienna Live - 10.15am

Petroc Trelawny introduces the traditional concert from the Golden Hall of Vienna's Musikverein. German conductor Christian Thielemann will be leading the concert for the first time, directing the Vienna Philharmonic in a performance of polkas, waltzes and gallops by the Strauss family and their contemporaries, culminating in the traditional renditions of By the Beautiful Blue Danube and the Radetzky March

World class.....Performed annually on 1st January, this concert tradition was started on 31st December 1939. This was under the guidance of legendary Austrian director Clemens Krauss. He is mostly associated with the music of Richard Strauss (not related to the famous Strauss family).

The 2019 New Year's Concert will be broadcast in over 90 countries.

Always a fabulous event to watch. Clean well-bred people in attendance, excellent musicians playing great music, a beautiful city on display, and (most pleasingly of all) a highly disciplined concert where anyone found clapping too loudly during the Radetzy March is peremptorily boiled in oil without any sort of trial. We don't want that type in attendance next year thank you.
