'Tis New Years eve and my central heating has broken down

British Gas Home Care have said that they'll be an engineer tomorrow morning to fix it.Surprised at that on New Years day ,so fair play to them.
As it happens the same fault occurs every 2 years.It's the motor which switches the valve between the heating and hot water sticking.

Why not try to sort that?

I can remember the time when a thread like this on Chit-Chat would have been a plea for DIY advice on fixing the motor itself, using only duct tape and a hammer.
