The death toll still rising
Report donny osmond • December 23, 2018 1:20 PM GMT
dangerous place to be, and live.

probably one of the ten most famous volcanoes of all time

full moon last night, ive not researched it properly but there do seem
to be many eruptions in that area that are linked to full moons.

gravity pulling on techtonic plates, or lava, perhaps?

a disaster happening and you were the 1st to reply in 9 hours; Donny. Well done to you

been out baph...

krackatoa is one of them places that has special meaning, i guess, due to
study at school, and a teacher who had visited...i probably havnt missed a
film or documentary about the place.

so this saddens me greatly.

It's East of Java.
More films should make an effort to impart geographical knowledge through their titles.

Donny, as the earth rotates, there is a tidal wave in the earth's crust and oceans created by the moon's gravity. The phase of the moon doesn't change the gravitational pull of the moon it only indicates the position relative to the sun. There is also a gravitational pull from the sun. The combined pull from sun and moon is at its maximum for any given distance of the earth from sun and moon when they are aligned on one side of the earth which would correspond with the New Moon phase. Of course, the gravitational effect will fluctuate slightly according to the inverse square of orbital distances which vary over the cycle.

i've just noticed a topic on here last night about full moon, Donny. That's really spooky
Report donny osmond • December 23, 2018 2:04 PM GMT
yeah, foinavon, its probably coincidence,

and krackatoa is west of java, innit?

hollywood eh!
Report Just Checking • December 23, 2018 2:05 PM GMT
Actually the phase of the moon would indicate the relationship of the sun to the earth so it would affect the amount of gravity, it's synchronised.

Full moon:
Sun-Earth-Moon, all lined up
Dark Moon:
Sun-Moon-Earth

This would tie in I'm sure with neep tides and so on, i.e. the strongest tidal force, which I'd imagine would be case 2.

On 23 December, it was confirmed via satellite data and helicopter footage that the southwest sector of the volcano had collapsed, which triggered the tsunami, and the main conduit is now erupting from underwater producing Surtseyan-style activity. [31]
