One of the very few politicians I had respect for.
Forces man and leading force sorting out the hell that was the Balkans in the 90s. RIP MR Ashdown. |

RIP sir, I have & had the highest regard for you
By:
Same here. A true old-fashioned, genuine and honest Member of Parliament; trusted and admired in every persuasion of the House of Commons. RIP Paddy!
By:
Sad news. We need more politicians like Ashdown. Perhaps then we would have more confidence in our political system.

........(life goes on) My wife would dispute that eldar
By:
After stepping down as leader in 1999, Mr Ashdown - who served in the Special Boat Service during his time in the forces - was knighted and then made a peer as Lord Ashdown of Norton-sub-Hamdon.
He became High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina in May 2002. |
By:
Sad News he seemed like a decent Man.
By:
Didn't often agree with his views but had to respect him having served in some of this countries elite forces. Thank you for your service sir RIP
By:
Sad news great guy, i saw him in a photo with his trouble a few years back, no wonder he put it about.
RIP PA A very decent fellow, even though i wasn't a fan of hes politics. |
By:
surely if a member of the 'big two' he would have become a PM? Then again; maybe not as i feel he was far too honest. RIP Mr Ashdown
By:
He had gravitas and seemed a properly rounded human being, which is why I think so many respected him even if they weren't LDs, unlike so many of the pissy hand wringing tw@ts who now fill politics...

RIP was a character |
By:
RIP paddy, did he ever eat his hat when he said the exit polls for the milliband election were obviously wrong.
By:
nick clegg said his legacy would be the founder of modern liberalism , bit harsh blaming him for lots of this countrys ills on the day he died, but very true
By:
I was going to write something similar 1tp.
About liberal policies bringing this country to the lawless socially split state it's in today compared to the last century. |
By:
of course the recent modfather of modern liberalism cleggy is now trousering millions working for a company harvesting peoples personal data on an industrial scale, but thar ya go
By:
Cleggy was on this morning singing the praises of Ashdown.
I had to turn off the radio because I couldn't stand the sound of his lying voice. |
By:
RIP to paddy ashdown who i think was a very decent guy, it was clegg who collaborated with the spivs , i think ashdown was uneasy with that
By:
not according to cleggy when asked this morning ashdown was all for it and negotiated lots of it ,the great liberal helping to heap austerity on the poor in this country all for the price of a few limousines for his party
By:
Did clegg say this whatever it was a shameful episode by the liberals propping up the spivs and shoving austerity on the public
By:
I don't think the Labour party could repay the money they lost, so we all had to suck it up
![]() |
By:
Arent you forgetting the world wide bank crash or did that escape you
By:
The banks had to be bailed out thats where most of the money went
By:
this morning on sky interviewer hinted at, give cleggy the chance to say ashdown was against the coalition but cleggy went into full ashdown was all for it mode, heped negotiate it mode
By:
where it went wasn't the problem who suffered most to pay for it was the problem, tories themselves even admitting it was a political choice
By:
Thorpe, cyril smith, ashdown, cleggy, the ginger rodent, the speeding jailbird, farron, cable who needs a liberal in the world
By:
Dedicated to public service but of course no mention that like all politicians he was well
rewarded for it. |
By:
Always came across as a decent sort, RIP.
