Len Deighton's Fighter was a revolutionary book when it appeared. It's a history of the Battle of Britain (not a fictional novel, like Bomber), and a lot of people still alive at the time found their reputations in tatters as a result of it. Like all of Deighton's history books, every time you turn the page you discover something that leaves you re-evaluating what you always thought you knew.
Oddly enough, Campbell's Condensed soup features often in Len Deighton's Action Cook Book. You can make an excellent crab bisque with butter, a tin of Condensed Cream of Chicken soup, an equal quantity of full-cream milk, a tin of crab and some Hungarian sweet paprika. |
