You may be right, Scandinavian.

Police will be so impressed by the droning of certain Forumites that they will issue them each with a Deputy Dawg's badge and take them hotfoot to Gatwick to implement all the expert solutions proposed on here. Methinks a night in a Sussex field with subsistence comprising a vat of baked beans garnished with a couple of dead dogs (credit Basil Fawlty in the Gourmet Night episode) will achieve nothing, except possibly a lot of hot air to blow the drones away.

No need for award of diplomas as everyone seems to have a Masters degree in hindsight already.

The law, emergency services, chief execs, mps, the government, cannot all clobber together and work out how to stop a drone, chit chat is where it's at imo.

Any type of prison sentence is a joke imo

Rapists out there getting 6 months ffs, and some prankster could get life for flying a drone within a mile of Gatwick Crazy

Lets wait and see where this drone came from. Could be Russia, China, Greenpeace, Juncker or a couple of teenagers. Either way they should be severely punished. It will cost the taxpayers millions of pounds a year to develop a way to stop it happening again. I still think that there has been a total over reaction though. Now every trouble maker on the planet knows how to close an airport for £100. The only solution is to ban the sale of ALL drones until they develop a foolproof way to bring them down.

I have somehow managed to stay silent on the subject all day , prefering to reflect on the 'facts' , although these appear few and far between .
Conclusion : After the best part of 36 hours they still have no idea who is responsible yet , within the first couple of hours of 'reports of a drone sighting' , the authorities made a statement claiming "We have ruled out terrorism" . Therefore the likelihood is that there is a terrorist connection .
So , was there a serious terrorist threat to Gatwick airport that required a cover story in order for the threat not to be made public ? If so , why ? We've had terror alerts over the last few years with little or no attempt to paint them as anything else . Why would this be any different ?

you're very welcome, Reynard

i must admit to being slightly flummoxed as to the reason for the Gatwick Boondoggle. It even passed my mind that a rogue UFO was perhaps peed off at Bransons Virgin Galactic foray

As conspiracy theories go this one is not beyond the realms of possibility :-

The UK voted by narrow majority to leave the EU a result according to some , although without foundation or evidence , which was due to a rise in anti-immigration feeling by many british citizens , even going as far as accusing Brexiteers as having xenophobic and racist tendencies . With every terrorist attack in recent years , both successful and foiled , concerns have grown regarding our open borders policy and now , as we approach the conclusion of Brexit negotiations , deals , no deals and the possibility of a 'peoples vote' any reports of further terror threats would be seen as adding fuel to the leavers fire thus potentially affecting voting patterns in a second referendum , should there be one . The cabinet and those driving the negotiations are , generally speaking , remainers and any raising of the terror threat above amber could possibly thwart their ambitions of the UK not leaving the EU in March . So , in the event of a serious terror alert at Londons second largest airport , it would make perfect sense to concoct some sort of cover story in order to deflect the publics natural concerns away from what could be yet another nail in the remainers coffin .
Ok , so as wild theories go , this may well be up there with the best and most bizarre of them , but nothing about this prolonged disruption makes any sense . Particularly the speed with which they told us that it was not terror related , and yet didn't have the foggiest who or what was behind it . Why rule something out so quickly , before they'd even had an hour to assess the situation properly ?

yes, plausible in our world, Reynard. Unfortunately the world we live in is ruled by 13 families; and mine (don't know about yours) isn't one of them. All in power are puppets and some of them even have rigid strings. We  will talk it about it some more my friend in our chit chat world; but for now i need to pour myself a large brandy and chill. Goodnight - sir

1/10 chance they are environmental activists. I doubt if in their wildest dreams they thought they could stop all flights for 36 hours that easily.

The more research you carry out yourself for yourself presents you with the ability to sniff out the bullshyte. That is all this really is.

It also helps you to identify a complete c**t which in some cases ( ie ) ifc1971 It doesn't necessarily take much working out.

The biggest clue they give you is the amount of posts they put up and on how many varied subjects they offer them in. Summed up simply as A surefire C**t of all threads, master of none.

Enjoy the rest of your day !
