Women aren't as competitive and we don't want them to be, I love them just being women

Womens boxing?? seriously? what kind of man can sit there and find 2 women punching each other in the face attractive?

I like watching womens hockey at say the Olympics or world championships but that's about it as far as womens sports goes, for me. I'm not interested in anything else personally.

BBC are a no go for sports news personally

They always manage to get some PC rubbish in there Cry

The problem is, when you see women's sports you immediately compare it to the equivilent men's sports rather than taking it for what it is, it's always going to be less fast and furious and therefore in most people's eyes, less entertaining.

Never seen women's cricket but I'm guessing there are far fewer 6's hit? or even 4's ? guessing the crowds aren't big, they struggle to get a couple of thousands for women's football.

women's tennis v popular however.

don't see a reason why women can't compete with men in the darts unless there's an obvious quality gap? idk I don't watch darts. Snooker as well, that'd increase interest, forumla 1 too.

I get caught out with women's sports stories as well on the bbc red button, there's no indication with the story title it'll be women related but then you click on it and it is, have to admit I do tut and return to the previous page.

But how else are they suppose to promote women's sport, half the population are women and it does encourage them to be more active so all good really.

would be interesting to be around in 100 years time to see which sports women catch up in having been
restricted for so long whilst men enjoyed themselves in all sports.

we used to play the girls at school at netball and we were rubbish at it, soundly thrashed.

but would thrash them at anything else

i have little interest in most womans sports, ..but its interesting to see some women jockeys
doing very well.in mixed company.

I like the women playing rugby - very enthusiastic

and they SWEAR!!  Oh yes!!! and the presenters are always apologising for it and it just makes me laugh.

But the women are keen on the game.
Report Baphornet • December 17, 2018 5:06 PM GMT
moisok; glad you mentioned rugby as that is one of the sports the women are actually stepping up at. I was going to start a topic about which sports the ladies do well at comparably to the men; maybe that can be discussed on here now? If we got into marks out of 10 for comparability; i'm afraid cricket would get -1 for me. It really is that bad
Report SontaranStratagem • December 17, 2018 5:09 PM GMT

Sorry but if you put the womens England team up against the men they'd absolutely thrashed and injured

sarah cook played aussie grade cricket, she was englands wicketkeeper at time
Report donny osmond • December 17, 2018 5:46 PM GMT
Sarah Taylor, the England women's wicket-keeper batsman, has broken into what was previously a jealously-guarded male preserve by becoming the first woman to play Australian first grade cricket. She gatecrashed what reputedly has been one of the last bastions of the macho Australian male by making her debut for Northern Districts in the South Australian Premier Competition on Saturday.

Not all statisticians seem entirely happy to let a Pom to take the accolade, with references also made to a T20 match in Victoria once played by Cathryn Fitzpatrick, who stepped down as coach of the Australian women's team in May, but Taylor's achievement in being selected for a two-day game will gain universal recognition.

SACA Premier Cricket is a two-day competition and represents the highest level of cricket played in South Australia outside first-class cricket.

Taylor took on keeping duties and was scheduled to bat at No 8 for Northern Districts - aka the Jets - in the first match of the 2015-2016 season against Port Adelaide Magpies at the Salisbury Oval, alongside players such as South Australia and Leicestershire's Mark Cosgrove and the former Hampshire batsman Joe Gatting - nephew of ex-England captain Mike Gatting.

She joined a list of players that includes former Australian Test cricketers Darren Lehman and Ryan Harris to have represented Northern Districts CC in this competition.

Taylor went to Brighton College, the same school as the former England wicketkeeper, Matt Prior, who said her catching talents were immediately apparent. She is particularly talented standing up to the stumps and has been advocated at times as worthy of a match in English county cricket. Mike Selvey, cricket correspondent of The Guardian has championed her as unique: the only women's cricketer he has ever seen with all the attributes to play at first-class level.

"I'm really excited about this opportunity - it's completely unexpected and offers another new challenge and environment for me to test my skills against some very strong cricketers. I had no idea that I would be the first woman to play at this level in Australia, but I am sure that I won't be the last. I have grown up playing boys cricket at Brighton College and more recently in the ECB men's premier league for Walmley CC, so I am used to playing with the guys."

Taylor will also feature in the Women's Big Bash for Adelaide Strikers and is also currently playing 50-over state cricket for the Breezair SA Scorpions in the Women's National Cricket League.

The sight of women playing in what was traditionally men-only cricket has gradually become more common in England over the past 20 years. Earlier this year England women's fast bowler Kate Cross became the first woman to play in the Central Lancashire League, one of the country's most reputable and traditional leagues.

Report Baphornet • December 17, 2018 7:51 PM GMT
Donny; wasn't Sarah Taylor going to keep wicket for Essex (men) at one stage? Her & Charlotte Edwards took the womens game into what is now the pro period. My contention is that said pro period wont last unless there is a vast amount of improvement in the womens game. A lot of women all over the world play cricket to a decent enough standard, but they are few and far between when included in teams. The standard of fitness is a major issue for me. It is not unusual to see 5 or 6 in a pro side palpably unfit. I've watched womens cricket for some time now and it is not improving; in fact it's getting worse. If they keep moving the boundary rope up they will soon be playing to a 25 metre boundary. Funnily enough, Donny i was watching the Aussie womens big bash the other week when i decided i'd had enough.

i agree with most of that, Donny and the white ball seems to be taking over. Having said that; shouldn't the cash paying public at least be seeing 'athletes' when they watch womens cricket? So i think they should start with some decent fitness coaches, but agree maybe cash is the overall problem

I watch non-league football.  I have done so on and off for over 40 years.

I could watch Premiership if I wanted, but it would involve a lot of travelling and I don't have the affinity with a particular team.

I don't like women's sport because it is second rate - but, if you call non-league football second rate, where does that put me?

a fan, and well done for that!

mate of mine follows his 9 year old daughters team, he says they are rubbish, but
he will never tell her, and tries to improve them, and the teams they play against, with a bit of
coaching.

when i started playing golf i was really poor at it. people were tolerant, and supportive.
as i became better i tried to encourage others, even those better than me. and as i became
half decent was able to help more, whilst remembering how rubbish i was when i first
played so was tolerant of others.

We've had womens cricket at my club for years. Very hard to get adults to play so the team is largely teenagers. We keep chucking resources at it but it's not easy.

The format is T20 and it's an 8 a side league. Making it pro at the top level, putting it on tv etc is making it appear successful. It's not. There's no depth. It's all fake.
Report Baphornet • December 18, 2018 8:04 PM GMT

i've missed Slippy Blues post so apologies. I was just about to draw a comparison - fitness wise between womens hockey and cricket. But really, there is no comparison. If they met at a training ground and compared fitness levels and training methods; there would be cadaverous cricketers strewn across a sea of green
Report Injera • December 18, 2018 8:39 PM GMT
Cheers!

Robinson has tried to address fitness issues with Engand. He dropped Edwards very quickly. The trouble is cricket is a skills game and sometimes the best players are not the best athletes.

With a lack of depth to choose from he's forced into picking people who aren't great movers.
Report Baphornet • December 18, 2018 9:05 PM GMT
i agree depth (as has been mentioned before on here) is a major issue. We then have a scenario of the 'better' cricketers playing against unfit lesser lights. And that's were competitiveness flies out of the MCC. It also leads to pie chucking and crosss-batted swipes. I won't bother with the fieldingLaugh

just a personal experience
