Got a smart meter to monitor daily usage.
Burnt £3.50 so far today, anyone beat that.
Grossed up, I shall use about £100s worth this month.

I asked my girlfriend if she wanted a smart meter for christmas, she said she'd rather I gave her a thick length.
Report annie. December 15, 2018 9:53 PM GMT
19p which includes heating.  I had to turn the fan heater on in my kitchen as the weather had become colder.  Usually, I don't need any heating most of the year, except for weather like this.
Report annie. December 15, 2018 10:00 PM GMT
That doesn't include the daily electric standing charge.

Not checking nuffin I understand but you Annie how can you fool for it? Take a couple of minutes of your precious time and have a look at "Smart Attack" and see what Smart Meters are really about, btw you are saving f uck all

I didn't put a smart meter in, terry, it was there when I moved into a new block of flats.

I have thought of getting rid of it but it is convenient in so many ways.  It tells me the time, the temperature of the kitchen and whether I have left any electrical items on when I go to bed or go out. It saves checking!  I think it does save you money by showing you what the fridge, computer etc use in electricity.
Report saddo December 15, 2018 11:09 PM GMT
I see elderly customers checking them all the time. I don't see how it help knowing what the fridge is using, you can't turn it off. Which leaves them to turn off something they can do without, lighting and heating.
Report moisok December 15, 2018 11:15 PM GMT
I think it is a jolly good and caring idea.  They can keep an eye on you.

32 rooms in my castle and i have a christmas tree in each of the rooms and the bill is 700 quid a week for the christmas lights on the castle itself i think i will get 32 SMart meter'S and find out who is wasting the most electricity.Laugh.if i pay a guy 100 quid to pull the plugs out of the sockets i can save 250 quid a week.LaughLaugh

Annie, but then you pay the price with data being sent to God knows who on what you are doing, what you are using, also if you don't mind pulses sent out by it with is bad for the heart could give you cancer,so if you don't mind your privacy taken away and maybe your health because it might be saving tuppence,id say a smart meter is wonderful too
Report Dr Crippen December 16, 2018 10:15 AM GMT

Exactly saddo - it's a con to claim they save you money.

I use what I use and heat the entire house up, so to hell with the cost.
That'll be the day when I go around turning things off.

The man made global warming fanatics are responsible for higher fuel bills.

If they hadn't started bellyaching about climate change being caused by greenhouse gasses we'd all be better off.

"smart" isn't it,Hurricanes, earthquakes etc all caused by the filthy Human race we are told but look up H.A.A.R.P. and see who really is fooking the weather up and the climate, also spraying sh1t on us worldwide every day must be a big help too
Report Dr Crippen December 16, 2018 11:07 AM GMT
On the radio this morning the bleeding hearts brigade were trying to demonise the practice of eating of meat, saying that it contributes to global warming.

So we're supposed to starve ourselves to death now, as well as freezing to death in our homes.
And all in the cause of making industrialists rich from providing alterative energy.

We must be mad to keep falling for these cons.

If you want to save money via your fridge running 24/7 then make sure it is as full as possible all the time.

I won't be having a smart meter until i am forced to.
Report clacton December 16, 2018 12:17 PM GMT
I wont have one if they force me. No one will ever enter my property to put one in.

I can see a situation sometime in the future where we wont get supplied by anyone unless there is a smart meter fitted.

O and they can catch fire, did I mention that?
Report Dr Crippen December 16, 2018 12:48 PM GMT
Must be costing lot of money to replace all the meters which will be borne by the consumer.

Yet they supposed to save us money. But how can we even get the costs of installing them back without depriving ourselves?

Do you really believe they will turn down peoples money just because of a meter. Dont think so

Just had mine installed with OVO as they offered £30 credit if I did. Main advantage (as installer said) you don't have to supply meter readings anymore.
Report terry mccann December 16, 2018 1:22 PM GMT
Big deal m8
Report McCoy Carp December 16, 2018 1:32 PM GMT
No, good deal terry. Glad I tied in for two years, nothing better on the market at the moment. MSE energy club alerts me if so. You should join if you haven't already.
Report terry mccann December 16, 2018 1:32 PM GMT
Very important part of the Smart Grid Surveillance, thats the only reason they are so desperate for everyone of have one, your data sold off to heaven knows who, they know when the house is empty,if you are using too much water,no energy is there is already a high demand, health buggered but you wont have to read your meter anymore, gee whats there not to like!!
Report terry mccann December 16, 2018 1:34 PM GMT
Carp my old buddy, I think notLaugh
Report Dr Crippen December 16, 2018 1:34 PM GMT
The problems start when you try and change your energy supplier.

You might find you're stuck with the supplier who installed your meter.
Report McCoy Carp December 16, 2018 1:38 PM GMT
Nope, as I gave the British Gas smart meter I had before to the Ovo installer (for recycling I guess.) I constantly review everything now when it comes up, the most difficult one to get to the bottom of being broadband/tv.
Report McCoy Carp December 16, 2018 1:39 PM GMT
I've actually got another smart meter installed as well that sends data back to the University of Southampton.

I guess it depends how many millions of $$$$$$ they stand to lose by not being able to charge for "Apparent Power" via the smart meters.
Report terry mccann December 16, 2018 1:47 PM GMT
People think its just installed as a meter,no there is so much more btw have I mentioned "Dirty Electric" that it gives out? no nor have the providers oddly enough
Report Dr Crippen December 16, 2018 3:49 PM GMT
Another good thing with the old type gas meters if you had a second one, was that you could connect the spare one up for a few weeks after they'd been to take a reading.
Then put the first one back ready for the next reading.

That way you could get a couple of weeks free gas.

I don't think you could do that with the new meters if they're transmitting information all the time.
Report Dr Crippen December 16, 2018 3:50 PM GMT
Not that I'm suggesting anything.
Report Dr Crippen December 16, 2018 3:51 PM GMT
Or simply turn the meter around in its housing and run it backwards for a week or two.
Report casemoney December 16, 2018 5:24 PM GMT
Going forward anyone Having these Installed  make sure you can Always pay your Bill ,I believe a remote Disconnection is Possible, Saves them sending men round to smash your back door in or Digging up the road .
