a 52% v 48% victory for may would also be ironic, would the erg then respect the will of the people?

Best chance to push her out the door is now

If they don't take the chance here they can well and truly sod off

Spare a thought for the OED.

They've had to change their definition of "democracy" several times in the last few hours alone.

Just to clear up the confusion:

Theresa May faces a vote of no confidence because the people who voted for her, having seen that she is no good at the job to which they elected her, would like to reconsider their position. This is according to the rules of the Tory Party, to which she and they are all subject. This what the Tory Party define as democracy, as it applies to their rules.

There can be no second Referendum on our membership of the European Union because the position has not changed since the first vote was held. We have not left yet, so we can have no idea of what the result of our decision will be, simply because our decision has not been implemented. This is also how democracy is defined - people take part in a vote, the results of that vote are then enacted, and if it turns out to be the wrong decision, the voters get a chance to change their minds at a later date.

There is no definition of democracy under which it states that any democratic mandate can be ignored if those against whom the result went simply cry like babies for a couple of years.

so when she defeats them, they will back her deal, like the good democrats they are ?
Report jed.davison December 12, 2018 11:47 AM GMT
Don't bother me with your silly non-sequiturs please donny, say something sensible for a change.
Report jed.davison December 12, 2018 11:48 AM GMT
If she wins the vote, she remains as Tory leader. Her deal will still be unpalatable to a majority of the Commons, and a majority of the population.
Report donny osmond December 12, 2018 11:53 AM GMT
so she will tell rees mogg to suck it up ?
Report jed.davison December 12, 2018 11:56 AM GMT
It doesn't matter what she tells JRM, her deal cannot get through the Commons even if every single member of the Parliamentary Tory Party votes for her to remain as Tory leader.

Loving some of the gymnastics this morning trying to explain why this one's fine but the other isn't. Truly very funny.

She wins this vote but can't get them on board with anything she puts forward?

Makes perfect sense doesn't it CrazyCrazy

Marginal Tories know if she stays they will lose their seats.

Twisting the facts to suit your agenda is the more apposite expression, I believe.

Do Tory Brexiteers now want her as leader?  I struggle to think of a time when they did.
Report CLYDEBANK29 December 12, 2018 12:42 PM GMT
I love how the public blame the politicians.  The politicians are bad, but the public are worse.  So many imbeciles.
Report CLYDEBANK29 December 12, 2018 12:49 PM GMT
The Tories made one fatal mistake.  They panicked and promised a referendum.  After that this malaise is all down to the public.
Report Mr.Anderson December 12, 2018 4:18 PM GMT
Mrs May won in 2016 - GET OVER IT. It is the will of the Tory-people that she is PM. If they have another vote tonight then democracy is dead, and the Tories can no longer be considered a democratic party Wink
