The worlds gone mad:

Kathleen McDonagh, aged 25, was reportedly in a store that she had been banned from, at the Mahon Point shopping centre in Cork, when the incident occurred.

According to the BBC the woman was stopped at the checkout and is said to have opened the tube of crisps, worth £1.30, so that they would have to let her buy them.

That's not how the situation played out - nearly two years later she found herself in court being handed a four month sentence, with two months suspended, for doing criminal damage to a package of crisps.

Agreed geoff absolute madness. Wonder how much this has cost in legal fees.

An inspector told the court that she said: "I opened it so you have to leave me pay for it".

"It was not fit for resale with a loss of €1.50," the officer told the judge, adding that although the woman wanted to buy the crisps, "she had no permission to be in the store."

McDonagh's legal representation asked for leniency from the court, explaining that she was recently married and several months pregnant, and had entered a guilty plea.

The judge, however, decided to impose a four-month prison sentence with two months suspended, noting that the accused had deliberately opened the product when asked to leave by security.

He said that it was difficult to see her actions as anything but "smart Alec behaviour".

Geoff, maybe not as innocent as it sounds, the name might be a clue and Mahon has enough of them,14 previous for theft and a few for criminal damage,a bit too smart til now and judicial payback maybe? what a beaut.

I didn't know crisps appeared in packets?

Normally it's with witty one liners.

Agree with last post as this is not the first incident.

Hopefully a short stay in prison will bring this women to her senses.

She is now married, and will soon be  having a child to care for, so she needs to learn better behaviour

I bet she'll think twice next time before she steps out of line.

If they'd have come down as heavy on her the first time she transgressed she might have changed her ways.
