Neighbour has Christmas decorations up

Did he put his decorations up himself????

a week ago opposite me although they do have young kids,now the rest of the street is playing catch up

Bit late, the council have got them all up in the town near where I live.

I hope they can afford to switch them on, no wonder they've put the council tax up.

The 27th, yesterday, marked 4 weeks exactly til Christmas Day.

Seem perfectly acceptable to me.

The tradition is 12 days before xmas and taken down 12 days after.

So, no, November is way to early, kids or not.

They're a straight couple in their early forties.

who's tradition, every one I know has them up first week of December going back to childhood

shops along the high street all ready have trees up, streets have Xmas lights up as well.

TWELFTH NIGHT is the Eve of Epiphany, Epiphany being January 6. The early Christian Church had no festival of Christ's birth. Easter was its main festival and, besides that and Pentecost, it celebrated Epiphany (the showing of Christ to the world) as a major festival. However, observance of the pagan festival of mid-winter survived and the Church compromised, saying that many of the ceremonial observances were so divorced from pagan worship that it did not matter if Gentile Christians took part - provided that the emblems of the rituals were removed before Epiphany. So the pagan symbols came down on Twelfth Night. Later the Church "Christened" the midwinter festival as Christ's Mass (just as the festival of Eostre was subsumed into Passover and the remembrance of Christ's Passion) but the 12-day rule was retained.

Most people attend church once a year, for midnight mass on New Years Eve.

Shops start selling Easter Eggs about 1 month before as well, surely you've noticed that

Should be a hanging offence to put them up in November - at least wait til Dec 1st ffs

put my tree up last week (and the first in the street)   ...makes the room nice and cosy  - and i will be the last  to take it down

As usual jamesdean has things wrong , better to have Christmas decorations up too early than have them hanging around 12 days after Christmas

Something tells me they're the type to suddenly take everything down on Boxing Day.  I'll keep you all posted.

I saw a xmas card and a small box of chocolates behind the counter at the bookies.  It must have been two weeks ago.

I would've thought the Church's views on Christmas were more pertinent than most giving the reson for it!
The Church might not be important in many people's lives but I think they might know a thing or two about Christmas. Cheers

Mrs S and i were maaried on 2nd Dec 1978. The pub we had the reception in was a mix of Wedding and Christmas Decorations - and they'd been up at least a week ahead of that. I think its been going on longer than we imagine. I blame Slade.

Peopl don't take the Church's view on Christmas into consideration though do they considering most people who celebrate Christmas are not particularly religious, it's more a traditional family event rather than a deeply religious one, look it's December, time to put up a tree, I suppose for some families when you buy an expensive tree and it's up once a year you want to get your money's worth
