have a read of this from last September in the Express:

Vote Leave was fronted up by Dominic Cummings and Matthew Eliott, Campaign Director and Chief Executive respectively.

However, in January 2016, with the referendum just months away, Cummings faced a coup from within the campaign – largely due to his direct and uncompromising style with MPs.

In his 2016 book “All Out War: The Full Story of How Brexit Sank Britain’s Political Class”, Tim Shipman recalls how Cummings was taken into a meeting room to hear his plotted destiny.

In the meeting, Brexiteer Daniel Hodson said: “I’m very sorry Dominic but I’m afraid to tell you this meeting is not exactly what you thought it was.
You’ve got to go.”

Cummings somewhat miraculously fought back and staged a counter-coup, arguing that Vote Leave staff would not accept it if he was forced out and, eventually, the rebels backed down.

“In the classic outline of a failed coup, the plotters had sought to oust the president without first securing the support of the military and the civil service,” Shipman writes.

However, it was Michael Gove who perhaps played the pivotal role in proceedings.

Cummings had worked for Gove from 2007 to January 2014, latterly as a special advisor in the Department of Education.

With the former Education Secretary still undeclared on his Brexit stance, Vote Leave knew his name would be a huge asset for their cause.
However, Gove made it clear that the presence of Cummings was absolutely vital for him to come to that decision and implied that he would reconsider if Cummings was ousted.

Shipman claims that when Gove heard of proceedings on the day of the attempted coup, he rang Peter Cruddas, the treasurer funding Vote Leave, Steve Baker and Bernard Jenkin.

To each of them he reportedly delivered the same message: “Look, I haven’t declared yet but you won’t have a chance of winning if you get rid of Dom.”

Bernard Jenkin claimed that Gove was “inexplicit” about joining the campaign but “the implication was, hang in there until cavalry arrive”.

Then Gove went further still, adding: “Bernard, it won’t be a good campaign unless Dom Cummings is running it.”
Cummings reportedly used it to his advantage, too.

Chris Bruni-Lowe told Shipman that Cummings “played the Gove card” and told the group: “I can get you Gove.”

Shipman adds that Cummings was all too aware of David Cameron’s imminent return from the February 2016 Brussels summit and that, after that, “Michael will be on my side and then I’ll be able to wrap this s*** up”.

Cummings remained as Campaign Director and the rest, as they say, is history.

Britain voted to leave the European Union on June 23, 2016, and David Cameron immediately resigned.

if he ever became PM i would leave this country. That is an outright promise. I'd rather live in a tree in Bali with one or two Suku Balis dressed in Kebaya feeding me Arak from a straw
