think they should do the same for unders 75's too ...bit sh1t if your 75 mind
By:
Of course they should scrap it, after all they have newsreaders on £500,000 a year to pay.
By:
all over 75s just dont pay it, see what happens.
By:
yeah, they'd have to start imprisoning old aged pensionsers then and that'd be a terrible look.
By:
Do non English speakers get a discount as its all broadcast in english?
By:
By:
its stupid to give it to all households with a single member over 75
it should only be granted to households where all the folk that live at the address are over 75, |
By:
amazed that anyone pays it
By:
why over 75 ? some 76+ y/o are very rich , many/most can afford to pay ...plus they get the benefit of a state pension ...what about those who die at 75 or younger ? ...they miss out altogether and don't get much back in way of a pension .
surely to make it fair have a free service for under 30s when most of that age group is poor and so everyone in that bracket benefits ,or better still scrap the daft idea altogether |
By:
we should be looking after our young ,the elderly do fine already
By:
Ah, the young are meant to be working
By:
it's the working population on low wages that are the hardest hit
By:
that’s what overtime is for , or they might consider going on strike for better wages
That’s the right and proper way to behave if you are a young person , don’t expect handouts that is no way for society to progress The sooner young people learn that the better |
By:
no age should expect handouts but instead have a liveable wage ...but if they're offering free tvl's to an arbitary age then the age should be the youngest not the oldest ,doesn't make any sense otherwise ....

Don't say bad things about the BBC, he who shall be not named will be on in a few minutes telling you shouldn't post these things on his chit chat!
![]() Who is going to fund Huw Edwards 600k a year to read a teleprompter a few nights a week or Jon Sopel 1/4 a million a year to come on the news twice a week to say "trump is a ****" in less explicot language? I mean look at this list: https://www.pressgazette.co.uk/more-than-40-bbc-journalists-paid-more-than-prime-minister-theresa-may-full-list-with-salary-details/ It's not like the BBCs output is geared much to old folk? Pensioners I know don't seem to watch it these days, more likely old stuff on ITV channels or documentaries on Sky if they have it. |

A bloke told me straight faced years ago there was a 10% discount for the blind didn't check so don't know if he was telling porkies as he was a bit of a card but should be at least 50% imo.
By:
Googled is now a 50% for the blind can't claim if partially sighted.

Audio Description (can be the strange AD button on your remote control) can be amusing if it works, but it's not specifically a BBC thing.
By:
To be fair, newsreaders don't just read the news, they have to be competent in challenging their guests live on air, from politicians to buisness leaders.
By:
When was the last time Huw Edwards interviewed anyone? I can't remember it at all. He reads a teleprompter on more than 1/2 a million a year.
Yes the likes of Marr or Neil at least have to prepare and try and interview people, (in the case of the former with debatable success). |
By:
The PM is on just 150k a year. And 30% of THAT is a bonus for above the call of duty dancing skills.

It's Laura Keunsberg's bit on the news. How long before her usual playing of pointless shouted questions outside #10 and .. I hadn't even finished typing and she had CRAP in her little piece. Well she padded out her slot with a bit about the #10 cat. Well worth her salary...

By:
*that crap.

Let the people who actually pay the licence fee decide on this question.
But that would involve making some part of the BBC accountable, I hear the shriekers shout, and we can't have accountability, oh no, people might demand more of it if the people being rooked to pay for things had a say in the spending, and that would never do in paternalistic old great Britain. |

Pretty crappy if youask me as this is a way for them to boost the monthly £££. One company contract I have seen even gave the standard hourly rate if the staff member worked a Sunday or bank holiday. |
By:
That’s terrible , when I was a young person I tried to work 100 hrs overtime a month
That was at time and a half and so that doubled my monthly take home pay I had so much money I didn’t know what to do with the money |
By:
Sunday’s were double time
By:
Then again I started work at 16 , unlike today’s generation who don’t seem to leave school until they’re close to 30
You see the country can’t afford that sort of nonsense |
By:
To give young people free tv licences is one if the silliest things I have heard in a while
By:
I would go as far as to say it’s immoral
By:
Now they should stop wasting their time worrying about getting a free tv licence and ask themselves why their terms and conditions and prospects of work are so poor .. here’s a little clue , oversupply of labour
By:
the peope at the top need more so the people at the bottom have to get less
By:
Need to stop free licences, winter fuel payments, free this, reduced that etc.
Give a decent pension. Bloody nanny state. |
