I joined BF back near the beginning and used to enjoy chitchat when this forum was started but there is no engagement with people like these.
People are generally neither 100% right or wrong but the sad individuals named above make me despair of contributing to threads like these.

I too have been using this forum for a long time. about 14 years, and I should think I have contributed even more than you have, RacingCert.
I've started: competitions, general chat, cooking, medical, comedy and joke threads, quizzes and more. I even met my mrs on here, I've met or personally know about 25 others, and have communicated personally with about 25 more, so engagement with me is incredibly easy.

I've never said who or what I support politically, it's just assumed because, like you, people assume things.
This forum has become buggered by the sheer volume of politics all over it. And by the infiltration of constant right-wing content, which started around the time of the BNP and its requesting of its members to spread the word online. It never stopped since.

What I've done on this thread, as I do on others, is point out the stupidity of it. The OP was wrong, the majority of (the same old) contributors have used it as another political - in this case anti-corbyn, platform.
It could just as easily been Trump, Muslims, Yaxley or brexit.
What you seem to want to see is the same people making the same points over and over again. Anyone who disagrees or points out how ridiculous any of the assertions might be is a "sad individual".
Well, in this case, I do think you're 100% wrong.
No-one has written more (and most politicos will disagree it's for the right reasons) than I have, bemoaning the state of this forum, its lack of traffic, and what it's become. The virtual destruction of the place is almost entirely due to non-stop divisive and political content.

If you want to engage or reason with me, just talk sensibly and don't go all Daily Mail or Breitbart.
Not that it will ever happen, but if ALL political content was banned from this forum, THEN it would be mission accomplished.

Some very disappointing post's yesterday, Remembrance Sunday and also the 100th Anniversary of the signing of the Amristice. Surely a time for reflection on those who gave their todays for our tomorrows.

People maybe forgiven for forgetting, but as far as Im aware every family who lost a member in WW1 were issued with a ceremonial plaque, colloquially referred to as the 'Death Penny'. We still have ours from my Great Grandfather, its in a frame on my wall because remembrance isn't about 1 day a year for me.

This is the way internet debates go now. Right and Left act the same way.

95% of people are not interested in the facts of a particular event. Because they have already decided who is right or wrong before the event occurs. eg Trump is always right. Trump is always wrong. There are people who will blame Trump for absolutely everything and then people who will never admit he has ever done anything wrong.

This thread a great example: Corbyn did not wear a poppy. On page 1 it is established that he was wearing one, but that does not matter, Corbyn has to be in the wrong so just move the goalposts and carry on attacking him. Anyone reading the OP and skipping to page 3 of the thread would think he definitely was not wearing one.

The left did a similar thing with Serena Williams when she attacked the umpire: She said he penalized her because of sexism or racism, that he would not have done the same to male players, and the left were all over it, demanding tennis had to be overhauled to stop stuff like this happening to Serena. It was quickly established that the umpire had a very consistent record of applying these penalties to big name male players too, so at that point could everyone just admit Serena was wrong, or just move on and shut up about it ? No, because Serena Williams is a big deal in identity politics and so she can never be wrong. There then followed days of articles of Serena as victim (with goalposts moves as they could no longer pretend the umpire was just picking on her alone).

Two terrible comparisons,most people in britain can't stand trump be they labour or conservative,certainly no conservatives i know, most despise him and again this left thing with serena williams maybe there were some sticking up for her but in general most people thought she was acting like a brat..

For me I've mixed emotions on the subject but would be opposed to either extreme, ie no restrictions or a total ban.
Trump I find fascinating and I'm neither a hater or a supporter. No graces but seems to have enough support for a second term to be a possibility.
Immigration is always presented on here as either for or against which completely ignores the middle ground of controlled immigration.
Muslims, my issues would be with the extremists along with those trying to force their laws upon us.

It was a response to DrC's assertion that I was rubbing noses in it by suggesting people died in WW1 for nothing.
It was somewhat glib a response but accurate I believe. WW1 achieved nothing since the problem festered and a second world war ignited after we had supposedly learned the lessons, 'the war that ends all wars'.
Well my shaping of my argument is that rhetoric like that are used to attempt to give value to (in this case sacrifice) or to justify a means.

If we are to assess the criteria of 'why' these wars occurred we can't be so myopic as to say its because an existential threat appeared overnight, because it didn't.
Its the continuing of the lie that everyone else is wrong apart from us.
The reason wars of that nature materialised is because of the actions that preceded them.
Germany emulated Britain and France in colonising other countries (the mining of other's potential for our own behest) and a power struggle insued, all the rest was just vehicles and excused for war, wars that are fought not by those in power, but of those without.

All actions have consequences. This is why Im willing to listen to (if not Corbyn) people of the mindset that we have to address our own issues if we expect others to do the same.....and only if others become grossly unreasonable for no good reason then we fight.

What a fantastically hypocritical thread - first the o.p shows more disrespect by actually making the pointless thread in the first place seeing as Corbyn was wearing a poppy and  obv doesn't see that his actions are disrespectful if he is as genuinely angry as he claims. Secondly all this a day after the Snowflake in Chief disrespected, basically the whole war, by not bothering to turn up and honour the dead from his country because of a little rain and not one mention from you lot. There is a thread on the politics forum on the Snnowflake in Cheif's non showing if you would all like to show your disgust over there - I'll bump it and expect many replies from you........
