Those you've mentioned seem to be fetching a couple of quid including postage which is a profit of about 40p per coin.

Then you've got the cost and aggravation of those that go missing.

Sold a few of the B Potter 2016 sets for 12-15 £
2017 don't seem to sell. olympic rarer ones always sell
along with certain £2 coins.

When I was a kid I had a big tub of ha'pennies and realised they were the same shape and weight as a 2p coin.  Most of them subsequently ended up in the 2p pusher machines down the seafront.

I had a few Kenyan 5 shilling coins from god knows where and they were an excellent double for the old style 50p.

once went in a c0in shop in Rome. Was great to see. Saddams face on Iraqi notes etc...

They went in the machine alright.

the old style 50ps went into a few machines as £2 coins until that was sorted out

old hong kong dollars went into old machines as old 50ps

not many dodges like that exist now!

He never lets you down. BTW Lib your coins were probably worth a few quid, certainly a lot more than 2np each.

ive sold quite a few coins on ebay just sold 3 of the eec presidency ones.
I buy them when lised on auctions that end over night so very little bidding opposition then sell them again at higher price.

the best advice I can offer is be realistic, some of the prices people list items for is crazy and just makes the whole thing a waste of effort.

check the sold option to see how much the coins you have are generally going for. you might find that its not worth the effort or time for what you will get, perhaps then do it as a bulk auction.

the best ones ive had in my change are the capital cities one pound coins and an undated 20p.

Undated 20p was that a return on one of your football bets ?

£56 iikv wich was low at the time but at the end of the day its money for a good bet.

Some sellers have the same coin listed for several hundred and several thousand pounds.

One of my best buys on there was the older snowman coins my eldest loved the snowman films so we got her the coins
they have really shot up in value, but I'm afraid id be hung if I cashed in on them.

As I said in an earlier post, I don't think it's worth the time and effort to make 40p per sale but this person is making a 14p loss on each coin.

I have my ideas as to how he is making a profit but it would be purely conjecture and I don't want to malign him.

yes ill prob get the grls the new snowman coins but ill be a fool and get them fom the royal mint.

you have to add in the travel and time to acyually post the item too.

silver and gold snowmen coins sold out very quickly at royal mint, usually a poor buy

I agree. Some might argue that a 40p net profit on something that costs 50p is a decent return but a you say, you have to post it.

You also have to list, pack and obtain a proof of posting which probably equates to a very poor rate per hour.

Also, as I said on a previous post, you have the hassle and cost of those that go astray in the post.

If you have a proof of posting, you can put in a claim but from what I've been told, it's an onerous process and you can only claim the postage paid and cost of the item, not the sales price. Also, if you declare that you've mailed cash, will RM reject the claim?

Donny they are selling at a premium on ebay, I don't see the point of getting them
in precious metal as the premium you are paying you are better of just buying bullion.

I think many just buy to list straight into ebay.
I make sure that every sale is worth my while, I do have many of the collectable 50p coins but
ill not sell them because as addressed here its just not worth the effort.
I have popped them into a coin wallet and will keep them for the girls to see when older.

my spare 50p coins are just in a box, not even worth time to wallet them unless
in really top condition, imo

i think the guys that have the market cornered for silver and gold snowmen will
make a profit, then the folk that buy from them will have no value...but maybe dont
care......probably do same next year as mint likely to do another one

yes some purchases you can ignore the value ive just paid £20 for two 50p coind really.
But I know the girls will love them so their pleasure is mor important with that purchase.

It`s an interesting hobby coin collecting, i`ve just started with Crowns, florins etc.

i wonder what will happen to coin values when our generations
die out.

kids today hardly have any interest, although the mint have tried
to stir a little interest these past 20 years or so.

when i was a kid, spending money was exciting as every coin
in my change was potentially valuable. fairly easy to find coins
from 5 monarchs , with many different portraits

crowns, half crowns, florins, and double florins still seem well sought after.

i am more into sixpences and below, especially pennies

donny - what draws you to pennies? I`m a novice, probably buy a book or two from Antiques fair Sunday.

If you buy florins one tip is to look at scrap silver auctions on ebay as some get included ive had a few
sent that were in great condition.

Its all about time and effort and many people are too lazy to check on the items they sell.

I had a small box of silver scrap which I won for £14, it had a silver watch case in it that was machined and looked great.
When I looked at it they had left the timepiece inside, it was a zenith watch from ww1. Although it did not work I got £90
for it just for the parts.

as a kid we rolled pennies around the school yard as our game of choice, so
i started noticing the differences, and i would always play with an edward 7 penny,
(if i had one.) other kids had their favourites......

i got interested in finding as many different years as possible...parents pockets raided
with permission, grandads, grandmas and uncles had my lists of what i lacked


collection started.....


as i got older i found that pennies dated back beyond queen victoria, back beyond
norman invasion, and pretty much became a history lesson to me
i could buy pennies from every era and of every monarch..then those made
in different mints around uk, ...and ireland

but sometimes a 2d or 3d or 4d was in better nick and sometimes even a 6d
to find best portrait of monarch....without paying over £100 for any coin

if you want bigger coins you will likely pay bigger prices!

there are plenty of coin books like spink guide, which you will see in waterstones
or the like for around 25 quid, or just read it !...( library may have it?).which will help you
identify most coins you will find.....although some mint variations may not be covered and you can get
more specialised books, or hunt down stuff on internet!

there are even coin forums where loads of folk will help you identify coins if
you post pictures...
