The last person to see her alive
Report tobermory November 7, 2018 8:25 PM GMT
The most significant thing to me is that although she was killed at her own front door she was no longer living there. She had been living at her partner's place for months.

She visited her own house only 2 or 3 times a week. So a random nutter who knew that was her house would in all probability have to wait in the street for a day or so. But we know the guy was only hanging about for 40 minutes. And it might have only been 5 minutes had Jill not made a trip to the shops on the way.

So either a stalker nutcase landed a long odds chance in arriving the same hour she did or the killer knew she was on her way.

Fitted the profile ? What profile ? The one of a random nutter landing a 20/1 chance that she would show up when he did. Profiling should be based on logic and probability, unfortunately Met detectives prefer hunches and 'gut feelings' the classic mug punter reasoning. A 'conspiracy' - that someone with a rational motive killed her or hired someone to do it - is clearly far more likely than a random stranger.

Whatever else it was, it was certainly the perfect murder. Not only did the killer escape the scene, someone else was convicted. It is well known that most murders are committed by spouses, family, acquaintances. If it is none of the aforementioned, the police are all at sea and dependent on "information"! With the passage of time I believe the killer will never be caught and we will never know what happened. Now, if the murder had taken place in Los Angeles, Cabot Cove or one of the Midsomers, Columbo, Ms Fletcher or Barnaby would of solved the crime in less than 2 hours (with ad breaks). I have to be flippant because Jill's murder was a terrible tragedy, and upset me greatly at the time. She seemed such a lovely lady and the perp has clearly got away with it. There is a theory that all perps leave something incriminating at the crime scene. This perp apparently did not. All points to a well thought out pro hit. Could not have been anything to do with the Beeb as an emblem of lefty loveliness would of been left as evidence at the crime scene.

For the defence William Clegg QC reminded the jury that evidence from three women from HAFAD (Hammersmith and Fulham Action on Disability) placed the defendant's arrival at their offices at 11:50 or 12:00, which, according to Clegg's argument, would have made it impossible for him to have committed a murder at Dando's house at 11:30 and then gone home (in the wrong direction) to change. Two neighbours who almost certainly saw the murderer immediately after the shooting had seen him go off in this direction, and later failed to identify George at an identification parade. The trial ended with George's acquittal on 1 August 2008.

10.05am Jill leaves her fiance Alan Farthing’s home in Chiswick to go shopping in nearby Hammersmith.

10.05am A traffic warden patrolling in the Gowan Avenue and Munster Road area spots a blue Range Rover parked illegally. She begins to note the number but stops when the driver protests. She erases the information.

Jill Dando timeline.....

April 26, 1999, 11.30am Jill’s shot dead with single bullet to the head outside her home in Fulham, South West London.
May 25, 2000 Police arrest Barry George, also known as Barry Bulsara, following surveillance on him.
July 2, 2001 A jury finds George guilty of murder on a 10-1 majority. He is later sentenced to life imprisonment.

July 29, 2002 George loses an appeal against his conviction at the Court of Appeal in London.
December 16 House of Lords refuses permission for George to mount a further challenge.

March 25, 2006 It is revealed lawyers for George have submitted new evidence which they believe undermines safety of his conviction.
June 20, 2007 Criminal Cases Review Commission refers the conviction to the Court
of Appeal.

October 29 Foreman of the jury that convicted George in 2001 says he might have been found not guilty if crucial evidence linked to firearms residue found in his pocket was presented differently.
November 5 George begins second appeal.

November 15 George’s appeal is upheld and a retrial ordered after scientists challenge firearms evidence.
June 9, 2008 Retrial begins at the Old Bailey with the judge ruling out the inclusion of the residue evidence.
August 1 George cleared of the Crimewatch presenter’s murder. He loses bid for compensation in 2013.

Report lewisham ranger November 8, 2018 10:30 AM GMT
yeah that fibre one is difficult to get past

The raincoat had been left lying on the ground for between six and nine hours after the murder, Robson suggested. The fibre might have been dropped by anyone passing. "It could have come from the suits or trousers in Miss Dando's wardrobe or from [her fiance] Alan Farthing's wardrobe," he said. "It could have been contaminated by people walking past [on the path]."

really? seems more likely it was someone who was directly in contact with her when she was murdered.

seems evidence against George was flimsy and he was of low intelligence but still not certain he didn't do it.

It is lucky for the suspect we have abolished hanging.

Else winning an appeal would not have done him a lot of good.

Either he was innocent or the police just did not come up with enough evidence to close their case.

Maybe is was not there?

Even without hanging there needs to be enough evidence to remove any doubt of gift.

If there is still enough doubt the defendent gets it.

Imagine being a very hardened criminal, who thinks he's got away with murder, then his case is being put up on Crimewatch with a audience of millions, detailing as much information as possible about his case including a photo fit - and that person was then caught and sentence to life in prison

It seems to me that the cuprit was a close associate, possibly family member, of a convicted criminal who was convicted after appearing on Crimewatch with Jill Dando pleading for information on him.

An act of revenge is the likeliest scenario.

Murdered Crimewatch presenter Jill Dando tried to get BBC bosses to investigate an alleged paedophile ring in the corporation, it has today been claimed.

A former friend and retired BBC worker has claimed that the television host was told that 'big name stars' and BBC staff were involved in abuse.

But when she tried to get her superiors to investigate, and handed a file to senior management, no action was taken, the source claims.
