Husband asking for asylum in UK. Isn't this just the sort of case where we should be showing the way? Not a dubious economic case, but literally someone fighting for their life in an oppressive country simply for being accused of blasphemy against Islam. Despite being acquitted I don't fancy her chances against the mob wanting her to be punished Sad

Ayslum is way over used in this Country too many claim it for no real reason.

Yet here is a case where asylum should be granted straight away for obvious reasons. I would be concerned though that the hang them mob has many supporters and followers here willing to carry out their wishes. So would need a totally new identity too.

Look at the thousands and thousands wanting to hang her, immigration from that country should be virtually zero! This case highlights how careful we should be with immigation from certain countries.

You see the numbers in the streets and the hate in their faces and surely you must ask why do we want any immigration from there?

Apart from those genuinely fleeing these people.

Those who say well we are not all like that etc, then why not stay and try and move your country forward?

ps can Anjem Choudary claim asylum back over there while we are at it.A straight swop seems fair.

I don't think anybody should be granted asylum by the UK government, ever. For such a process involves rooking the taxpayer to support cases that they might not agree with.
But I would support a system where individuals, or community groups, can sponsor immigrants with visas stamped NRTPF, and would whole heartedly support Mr Hank Hill in his sponsorship of the Asia Bibi family. There would be a cost to this naturally, around 3k a year for health care in round numbers or 6k a year per child getting a UK education, but I would be happy to chip in.
But would still not endorse taking taxpayers to court to get them to subsidise my or Hank's views on this.

All reason goes completely out of the window, doesn't it?

This subject is impossible to discuss. Unless you write the stuff seen on this thread.

ANY other writing makes you an apologist for terrorism.

Fecking idiots.

You picked the wrong thread to post on SF.
The other thread which was first up is sympathetic to this woman and her family.

Not sure what criteria is used to grant or deny asylum but I've never seen anything as compelling as this.
Whilst the Supreme court in her land found for her the baying mob are demanding she be retried and hanged.
Currently moves are being made to block her leaving and if that happens she is doomed.
I'd like to see the UK government get involved and put pressure on her government.

That happens all the time with policies. I personally never wanted tax payer money to go to the destruction of Iraq. It certainly did though.

On BBC News -  Just watching the loons in a massive crowd screaming about this poor woman.  It reminds me of the crowd scene in Life of Brian  - the messiah  (another film accused of blasphemy ) and John Cleese  as the priest  'are there any women present'?
shame these people simply have no sense of humour the ancient book runs their lives

and then some pro eu propaganda

Again on the BBC just now a story  about the Jane Austen society of Pakistan which has a 1000 members having afternoon tea somewhere in London promoting Jane Austen & all she stood for all very nice, while back home thousands in the streets demanding a women should be killed basically for standing up for her religion which obviously is not the done thing if your not Muslim in Pakistan, good timing you could say for such a story.

If we can offer protection to people like rushdie I see no reason why we shouldn't offer asylum (this isn't an economic immigrant instance) to someone in fear of their life.Has this country lost its moral compass ?

I don't know if you get my point about how cressy and little khan have been fighting back - especially with the propaganda to 'show' they are doing something.
They can go out and arrest 1800 (they say)  all knife crime(?)   and just how many will be PROSECUTED
so how many taken off the streets ho ho  -

So if the police are going around arresting all the black and asian gangs etc won't this be doing EXACTLY what they complain about - picking on the 'community'

Why are they just not swamping the areas and doing the lot of them.  The cops even know who they are - even common purpose cressie says they know them.   hmmmm

Wilson Chowdhry, who is Chairman of the British Pakistani Christian Association, has said: “I’ve been lead to believe that the UK government had concerns that her moving to the UK would cause security concerns and unrest among certain sections of the community and would also be a security threat to British embassies abroad which might be targeted by Islamist terrorists.

Oh the irony of it......the government fearful of what members of this so called religion of peace might do, both here and abroad, if they offered her "santuary" in this country....

No doubt their view is that she wouldn't be safer here in any case, since they have imported thousands and thousands of the same type as the ones she is trying to run away from who wish to kill her!!

It would appear that once again, our politicians continue to make decisions based on fear, (they say "concern"), of how some of the followers of an imported ideology might react.....explains a lot really...

Wilson Chowdhry of the British Pakistani Christian Association, said: “Britain was concerned about potential unrest in the country, attacks on embassies and civilians.

“They have not offered automatic asylum, whereas several countries have now come forward. They won’t be coming to Britain. The family will definitely not be coming to Britain.

He said Britain was “being helpful”, but it was “an enduring shame that a country with such a lauded history of helping refugees and asylum seekers, that when the Asia Bibi case has come before them, they haven’t been as generous as they have for many victims in the past”.

He went on: “It does seem to me that Britain is now a country that is unsafe for those who may be tarred with an allegation of blasphemy. We are very aware that there are extremist elements in this country.”

“Britain would have been one of their first choices. America, Britain and Canada, these would have been their first choices. It was a bit of a kick in the teeth.”

you can see why there is a problem with it all it is a state of mind and of course - cultural - this is the sort of thinking you get with our friends but people in the west simply don't see it

“I remember I was nine years old the first time I saw a video of a guy smashing his sister’s skull with a stone while the whole village watched and cheered,” says Mrie.

Such killings are meant to seal the matter, never to be spoken of again – perpetuating a culture of silence that functions to protect the killer.

...............

How do the guardianistas rationalise importing people brought up with these ideas? Hoping they would change has been in vain.
