Around 250,000 people go missing in the UK each year.  Most of them turn up after a few days and 99% are found within a year.

But that still leaves 2,500 who disappear without a trace?  Where do they all go?

It must be pretty difficult in this day and age to just cut all your ties and start a new life somewhere; especially if people are actively trying to trace you.

In the case of suicide, a body would usually be found.

That really only leaves abduction and/or murder where the perpetrator has managed to conceal the person or body.
