It would solve this 'brexit backlog' overnight.

Go for it. The Union is a fairly recent construct compared to the nations within it.
It would serve the DUP right.
Perhaps Wessex could make a comeback

There should be a vote for all the countries in the UK on which of them should remain in the UK.  I would think the only one being voted out would be N.I

isn't it funny, if the Nicola Sturgeon got independence and England,Wales and N I kept together as the U K, she would have to have a hard border and tariffs to trade with the U K. how would she sell that to the, [using her favourite saying ]the people of Scotland. wac. cheers.

I`m all for English independence. Sounds a great idea.

N. Ireland could exist as an independent country very easily, how do you think the ROI survives
Report lfc1971 October 19, 2018 8:48 AM BST
In fact they would be in a much better situation than England, England has to produce the jobs for millions of foreigners with all the problems of multiculturalism , its fcuked

Now N.Ireland is a small country of one and a hlf million with the automatic right to live and work in any part of England Scotland Wales Ireland  and Europe

See how it works?
Report lfc1971 October 19, 2018 8:51 AM BST
So the N.Irish unionists don't have to worry too much now do they?
Report lfc1971 October 19, 2018 8:58 AM BST
you see the problem for England is countries such as the Republic of Ireland pretend they want independence but for some reason freedom of movement to England continues
And we can see how grateful they are in the brexit negotiations

They shouldn't have the automatic right to live and work in the UK unless they are prepared to behave

mustang you are going to have to think for yourself just a little bit ,there are too many flags in London, and too many in England
it causes too much trouble
Report lfc1971 October 19, 2018 9:32 AM BST
you see its not necessarily the people that cause the problem, its the flag
understand?
Report JOMO II October 19, 2018 10:06 AM BST
Nothing but problems, as far as I can see.

Incredibly difficult to keep well laundered, assuming a silk flag.

The temptation is of course to iron on a hotter setting than advised, but that just leads to the inevitability of burns.

But you can't not wash it in an effort to avoid creases. If you use your flag only occasionally and keep it rolled up somewhere - cupboard under the stairs, perhaps the garage - then musty smells are but a few unused-flag months away.

You could air it - once a month, say - but then you run the risk of provoking social problems. Vigorous waving of a Timor-Leste flag in the residential streets of Ipswich might seem a low-risk activity, but 1.01 shots sometimes (I am told) fail to land. If you suddenly have an irate Indonesian squaring up to you, he's hardly going to accept "I was just trying to avoid it getting a musty smell" as a placatory offering.

Flags are of course quite common in football grounds, but you're just going to confuse both sets of fans if you head along to Huish Park with your Timor-Leste flag.

I recommend a novelty pen instead. If you find yourself in a fervent march of nationalism that isn't anything to do with Timor-Leste, then no problem - just keep your pen in your jacket pocket and you'll avoid confusion and escalation. If the march is however to do with Timor-Leste, you could get to the front of the march, turn around to face the marchers and get them to watch as you tilt the pen to 45 degrees. The colours of Timor-Leste disappear and are replaced by a picture of Francisco Guterres, Betty Marsden, a dalek - whoever or whatever might best-represent the cause.

You can also use the pen to write with. You can't write with a flag.

Flags are fine, if you are that sort of person ,  under certain circumstances , it’s not something that concerns the English people very much we are not like that

But never fall in love with it , that would only make you sad

I recall a few years ago in London , there was a celebration for the queens 90th birthday or something like that and I was speaking to a Chinese woman who was waving 2 small union flags
I asked her and she said she loved the Queen and loved England

It made me feel a little ashamed at my indifference

N.Ireland is heavily subsidised by Westminster. If they left the Union they would sink without trace. That's why the ROI don't really want the North back. Cost em fortunes.

they may receive a little more due to the Barnett formula, as does Scotland and Wales
that doesn't matter if they become independent they will still have access to live and work anywhere on these islands, and they will have exactly the same rights as anyone else...without the responsibilities,  very good
and guess what they will have their own country to fall back on with its own industry and agriculture and businesses and with cheaper housing  etc

What you have to realise is they are in exactly the same place as the ROI has been for the last 100 years, although of course the North has always been better at industry,
and would remain as the ROI has been , independent in name only, with the benefits and without the costs
( just one glaring example, the ROI didn't have to fight in WW2, Britain did it for them)

do you wish to compare the subsidies that an individual from N.Ireland receives compared to an individual from London?

there are millions of people living in London receiving billions more in subsidies on housing allowance alone
