It should a legal requirement for any driver or passenger in a vehicle to wear a helmet on single/dual carriageways and motorways, you may feel stupid at first but everyone will get used to it.
It should also be a legal requirement for everyone to have dash cams, front and back, it will stop the scammers looking for insurance pay outs with their brake checking tricks they're always up to and make people think more about breaking speed limits. They reduce accident rates and insurance claims in Russia no ends
will be good to free up so much of the emergency service's time and tax payers money not to mention the trauma of losing lives that affect so many.
Agree SH. To be fair, most young kids nowadays wear helmets. Looks like the stigma might have gone a bit and they're more accepted.
Agree about dash cams too. Already incentivised by insurance companies, could well be a pre-requisite soon.
(on a similar but slightly different theme, I'd demand that every new build had solar panels included as a matter of course.)

Don't racing and rally drivers wear crash helmets?
A crash helmet doesn't restrict vision as much as a burka and they don't appear to be particularly unsafe. Although they might be because I've never seen any figures.

Most road traffic accidents happen in the dark. Instead of more street lights why not construct our own artificial moon to provide better lighting.
Thanks to Chengdu for the idea.

I'm sure someone can come up with a suitable desing, a lot of money in it for whoever does and when the government makes it law.
Reminds me a little bit of Dragons Den, a guy came on with a Autosafe Seat Belt Adjuster idea, Peter Sesay, died 10 years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mG7zkom5-c8

We've been designing head protection for centuries.
For motorised vehicles they're called crash helmets. On building sites they call them hard hats or safety helmets.
On the understanding that a car is a vehicle and the head protection would be worn to protect in the event of a crash, I'd call them crash helmets.

Severe restrictions on new drivers. Severe restrictions on young drivers. Ban the souping-up of cars. If you're caught "driving like a díckhead" (wonderful Aussie phrase), you're banned for life. Ban the dangerous queue jumping done by motorbikes. You stay in one lane and wait your turn as is the British way.

didn't say it wasn't a crash helmet said it wasn't a racing helmet, a racing helmet would obviously not be suitable, it would have to be specifically designed to allow for good peripheral vision for a start, around 300,000 head trauma incidents occur in the US every year.

Isn't it the case that most brain injuries in car crashes are caused by the whiplash impact of the brain against the skull rather than the skull against anything in the car ? (thanks to seatbelts and airbags). In motor racing, such injuries are mostly prevented because the helmet is strapped to the headrest which restricts movement of the head. Not sure how that would be practical in our cars. A helmet on it's own might help in a crash where you're hit from the side but in a front or rear collision it's just going to increase the weight of the head and make things worse
