say ya over 75
By:
Good luck. Non payers should really organise, it's very wrong that we have to pay for something that is often nothing more than propaganda, or end up in court and prison.
By:
Insanity is paying for it chap .....and as a side notice, the BBC will now start charging the over 75s for licensing,to help with costs...,
Greedy ****,...... still very diverse, ![]() |

How did they find out you'd got a television?

By:
If you buy a new tv it’s sort of a registration ,they ring you ,post you ,if you refuse you receive a court date , would show a pic of letter ,don’t know how to up load

By:
so if you buy a new tv from currys/pc world they pass on your details to the bbc? wtf how is that even legal? data protection act doesnt cover this?

Apparently 180-200,000 a year are prosecuted for this!:
In fact : "With more than 180,000 people charged with not paying their licence fee each year, prosecutions currently account for around one in 10 of all criminal cases in England and Wales." https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/01/24/tv-licence-evaders-could-get-slap-wrist-new-sentencing-guidelines/ Going a bit lighter on people who can't pay is no good to people who don't want to pay on principle and don't watch the BBC or would be happy if they couldn't. Of course if they just got rid of it they might replace it with paying through general taxation. Might as well do the same for the Guardian while they are at it.. |

By:
It's not illegal to own a tv without a licence. It's illegal to watch live transmissions without a licence.
If you only watch catch up tv, you don't need a licence. |
By:
It's any live TV though. You watch a bit of Dave or Babestation or Sky or even use a satellite dish to watch Polish TV, you have to pay for the BBC.
By:
I see Huw Edwards is on now, paid 600k a year, approx 4 times that of the PM, to read the news a few nights a week, and people go to prison if they refuse to pay for this sort of profligate p1ss taking.
....Nice work if you can get it. |
By:
You have to be careful in court.
If they say you've been receiving live broadcasts and you know you haven't, the judge could believe them without asking for proof. You'll get no justice in a court. |
By:
conditor have you told them you watch tv without a license and dont give a feck or are you pleading not guilty
By:
Didn’t tell anyone anything chap, bought a new tv, as I said 18 months ago been unindated with letters, phone calls, threats, now a day in court
By:
Most people when confronted, are bluffed into admitting to using a tv without a licence.
They always say they can tell you've been using a tv but won't say how they do it. Which means they're bluffing. |
By:
Think it’s called scaremongering,as the BBC do with the general population,....because the governments rules em, and the banks rule governments

Hang on
In the past it was possible to avoid the TV Licence by avoiding live programming and using only catch-up services like BBC iPlayer. However, the rules changed in September 2016, meaning the law requires everyone to pay the £150.50 annual fee for colour televisions, whether they are enjoying live programmes or those broadcast previously. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/bills-and-utilities/tv/the-legal-way-to-avoid-paying-the-tv-licence-fee/ |

By:
Unless they can prove you watch bbc on your new tv they dont have a leg to stand on. Either you bought it for a sibling or just to play video games.
Or just tell you that you dont watch the bbc. Funny thing i have purchased 2 tv's in the last few years, gave all the details as they were presents. You only have to pay the tv license if you watch bbc live, on iplayer or use their website. |
By:
Watch ANY live TV and you can be done, not just the BBC.
By:
But at 150 quid a year, surely that a bargain for their Pro EU agenda?
Switch over to newsnight now if you've not had enough today. |
By:
Just tell them you use it for video games or for watching dvds, they have to prove otherwise.
By:
Say you bought it as a present for somebody who has a Tv licence.
By:
JC is right, you need a license to watch any LIVE TV and even catch up TV on BBC IPlayer.
Tell them you only watch dvds and VHS tapes through your tv, they can`t prove otherwise, unless you are viewing through a smart TV connected to the internet or a Satellite dish. If you watch LIVE TV via the two mentioned methods, get a friend to bake you a cake with a file in it. ![]() |
By:
Get a friend with a time machine to go into the future and send you RECORDED DVDs back of todays TV.

I haven't paid the license fee for years . Nor do I possess a TV . I have received over 100 threatening letters and warning notices since January 2016 .
I have been advised to take legal action for harassment by claiming that I am suffering from stress related anxiety and depression as a direct result of their postal bombardment . |

You seem well tuned in to me.

My solicitors eyes lit up when I said I'd kept every letter received . Apparently without the actual letters as evidence they deny sending more than one
